Re: honeymoon costs

we had a vacation 'fund' before becoming engaged and continually add to it- that is where HM $$ will come from

You contact travel Tom via e-mail and then exchange phone numbers. He will call you and you can discuss what you are looking for. He will notify you of prices and reseach via phone and when you decide on something then he will send you all the information via e-mail for you to review and agree on before the 'go ahead' Travel Tom lives in Washington,DC. He doe not visit NY often. All of your contact with him will be via e-mail and phone.

Re: honeymoon costs

We started a 'honeymoon' fund last June... in 9 months we were able to save a little over $4,000! All we did was set up $100 to automatically move into that account every week... we didn't even miss it!

by gift money do you mean from the wedding? problem with that is that you would have to wait until after the wedding then to book your HM, only bc you never know ahead of time how much you'll get and what to bugdget for your HM.

Just budget your HM into your wedding budget so this way you set money aside for that too.

Travel tom is a TA and it works the same as it would with any TA. You tell him what places you are interested in and then he'll find things to fit into your budget and if you like it you can book

Also aren't there places you can book with and they can set up a registry for you?
This way others give gift money towards your trip or purchase special events and things for you?? I was planning on going this route because we won't have too much to register for since we already live together.

HM is just another vacation for us. as a teacher, i budget for a vacation every summer, so in 09, it'll be southern europe for the HM.

We haven't decided on where to go. But I think we are gonna split everything. Plus there are some cruise lines where you pay some money when you book and then a month before..I rather pay for it up front!! I need to get moving on this. I am getting married in September...and I need to let my offices know when I will be out! They already know it starts September 10th. But don't know when I will be returning...I rather not return...LOL

Re: honeymoon costs

for us, we paid for our wedding by ourselves so we decided that the one thing that we would charge on a cc was our honeymoon - we love to travel and wanted to have the trip of a lifetime and didn't want to feel like we missed out because we didn't have the cash for said trip.

so we charged it and used wedding gift money to pay towards the balance due.

My FH is treating me to the honeymoon...once were married all our money is the same though lol so I guess WE are paying for it! lol

We are paying for our HM ourselves. We included costs for it in our wedding budget. Most HM's need a final balance before you leave so unless you are placing it on a credit card I don't think you can wait for gift money unless someone offers you the HM as a gift. Although if you are not going immediately on a HM after the wedding then certainly you could wait for the money.

Re: honeymoon costs

We are paying for our honeymoon ourselves, and FH and I are splitting the cost (although it will really be our money anyway)

I paid for our flights in full (at the time of booking) and the down payment for our resort, and the balance is due closer to when we leave.

As for where the $$$ is coming from, my half is coming from my savings (actually, I charged the flights and down payment and then paid it off at the end of the month because I get cash back on my citicard) and I'm not totally sure how we pay for the rest, but we will probably put that on a card and pay it off immediately as well to get the $$ back.

FH calculated how much 'his half' of the trip is, divided it by the number of paychecks he has left, and has that amount direct deposited into an ING account he set up for 'honeymoon savings' -- it just goes in automatically so he doesnt need to think about it.

it's true that you might be able to reimburse yourself with wedding gifts but as other people said you cant really count on a set amount of money, and you will probably want to book earlier.

Unless you can save $$$ by paying it all upfront or really dont trust yourself with money, it's better to pay the deposit and pay the rest a month before. then you can let the $$$ sit in a high interest savings account like ING and let it earn money in the meantime. Even if it's only a few hundred $$$, that's still a few hundred $$$ more than you had before!

Re: honeymoon costs

I heard for your bridal shower people donate to the honeymoon instead of house gifts. There's websites out there for honeymoon registry. Research it and they will pop up.
