I need some advice.... Me and FH are in the process of booking our Honeymoon to Aruba for one week. I found out that if we book through american express we can take an American Airlines direct flight from JFK to Aruba and stay at the Hyatt for a total of $3500, this includes airfare, hotel, travel insurance and airport/hotel transfers. The only issue I have is that the flight from JFK to Aruba leaves at 12 PM and we arrive at around 5PM, then from Aruba to JFK we leave at around 6PM and arrive home at like 11 PM.
I just checked that JetBlue released their flights and they leave and arrive alot earier in the day which would be perfect, only problem is we can't book thru american express and it would cost us $500 more....
What would you do? Leave later/arrive later and pay $500 less or take the earlier flights and pay more?
wow...prices have changed so much over the years...cant believe its so expensive to go to aruba...i went back in 99....

i'll do a lot for a cheap flight. see if you can leave your bags at the hotel when you get in that morning and go spend the day in aruba while you wait for check-in time. as far as the 6am flight, we take those all the time. sleep on the plane.

We would be arriving in aruba at 5PM not in the morning, im just afraid that we would be wasting a day in travel. The only upside is when we leave Aruba to come back home it would be a late flight as well so we would have a few hours to hang out on the beach.

it really is a hard call because i understand what you are saying. if you feel like your losing out i say pay the extra money ... whats another $500 ontop of a $40,000 NY wedding right? (this is soooo not like me by the way ... butttt its your honeymoon and you only get one) your going for 7 days i would want to make the most out of those 7 days too. BUTTT if money is really a concern than get there at 5pm, check in, eat dinner and enjoy the night life ... than you will wake up fresh and ready to go the next morning.

maggie i cant believe how expensive the jetblue flights are!!!! i was so pissed to see that as soon as they came out for the day we want to leave the flight is $369 each for one way!!!! I was expecting like $225!!!!
what to do.....but for $500 I would spend the extra, otherwise you'll feel shortchanged on losing so much time on those 2 days

I'd pay the extra money, you'll feel like you lost a day if you didn't. If you don't pay the extra, you might regret it once you get there.

What about booking with AMEX and staying another night in Aruba this way you don't feel like you're wasting a day traveling and at least the extra money is going towards another night of vacay instead of airline price differences???

i would pay the extra $500 so i can enjoy the HM a lil bit more. you have to remember that you also have to go through customs and sometimes the lines get crazy. we were on line with customs for about an hour one time in aruba.

it's your honeymoon, i would get the earlier flights. in the gran scheme of things, $500 isnt that much. if you can swing it, i would do it.

we had a similar dilemma. I got my flights for free by using FF miles but we couldn't come back on the day we were suppose to (8th day). There was a free flight coming back the next day. So we decided instead of spending money on the flight, I'd rather spend the money on the extra day at the resort.
If you have to pay, at least get more for your money.
