honeymoon from hell (sorta)

So husband and I booked a trip to go Greek Island Hopping with 2 nights in Athens, where, as you know, has had a lot of civil unrest lately, but we decided to go anyway b/c the tour company said it was safe, and it was only 2 days in athens anyways. So on our first day, we witnessed a fight and protesting at Acropolis, the president of the democracy was making a speech there...went to Plaka for lunch as as we were walking to the hotel, people were protesting in the streets (read: riot about to start) and the riot police with their shields, bats & helmets are out, and we're staying at the hotel 2 blocks from the bank that got bombed a few days bfore, there's men outside screaming at night...and there men in the streets outside the hotel are 'hissing' at women...not just me, the other women on the tour as well. Freaking weird. So we get to Mykonos & its freaking gorgeous and our tour manager says to try this drink called 'the devils tongue' which has like 8 different kinds of alcohol, but only have 2, b/c they make drinks really strong here. So DH (whose nickname in college was 'Hurricane) and another guy on our tour decide to stop not at 3 or 4...but at 12. So here I am on my honeymoon, feeling like an RA in college again, taking care of the drunk freshmen who partied just a little too hard their first weekend at college.

I'm glad that you were ok in Athens and that Mykonos was gorgous!!!! Post pics if you have them! I hope you make DH take care of you now that you're home!

Our tour guide said it has calmed down a lot in Athens in the last 2wks actually. When some overzelous protestors had bombed the bank, they were trying to protest the government, but by bombing the bank, they actually killed 3 of their own people (civilians), one of them was a pregnant woman, so since then, the furor has died down a bit. There's still some protests and demonstrations and the roads get closed, so its not really ideal. The islands are awesome though. Its crazy hot, and the drinks are about 10 euro (like $15 American) and the food is INCREDIBLE.

I AM in Greece still. In fact, I'm at an internet cafe talking with the other girl whose boyf got wasted at Mykonos. She suggested now would be a good time to ask DH for money, and she was right...it worked!!

wow sorry but your tour guide is an idiot, right where the acropolis is is where all the protests are taking place, im so glad youre ok though, ive been watching the news and its a mess in athens right now, glad you didnt stay too long

This will definitely be unforgetable. Your DH will be fine, hopefully just sleeping it off. I am glad you passed through Athens safely and hope the rest of your HM is amazing!
