Honeymoon HELP!! Cruise, Club Med, what should we do? LONG

Hi all-
I've come to you once again for your expertise. We originally were supposed to have a friend's timeshare - well that fell thru!! So now we are trying to plan our honeymoon around our tight budget (we know we have to splurge a little, because we are going away during the winter break for schools). Originally we wanted Aruba - but after pricing airfare, it costs almost 2,000 JUST TO GET THERE during that time of year...so that's out. We are now tossing around the idea of cruises v. Club Med type of deal. Sooooo my questions are:
1. Which would you do?
2. If you've been on a cruise, which line would you recommend (and to where) and what did you think?
3. If you've been to Club Med, where have you been and what did you think?

ANY info you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!! :)

We're going to ARuba in June, but the package was only $2300, it goes up that much in December???

Can't help you with the other questions, but just wanted to tell you that are ceremony is pretty much done, and we are rehearsing w/ April this Saturday. When I finished reading the last draft, I almost cried! I can't wait, she always makes me feel better when I'm nervous, and is always willing to have us over or talk on the phone. How's your's coming??

I've been to Club Med Turks and Caicos (sp?), it was beautiful, but it was very singles minded with a lot of partying. I wouldn't recommend that location (as far as a Club Med site) to go for a Honeymoon.

I've also been on a Carnival Cruise and loved it!

Can only comment on Windstar cruises through Tahiti, beautiful but very expensive!!

I have been to Cancun, Turks & Caicos and Paradise Island. The first two were defintely 'singles' orientated

You might want to check into Club Med Paradise Island in the Bahamas. From what I remember there were alot of honeymoon couples there, make sure that they have rooms without twin beds. Would not be a fun start to your honeymoon ;-)

I know a couple that went to Sandal's Santa Lucia on their honeymoon and absolutely loved it! =)

I have never been to club med but I have been on cruises. They are so awesome. We are taking a cruise to Bermuda for our honeymoon. We are going on Royal Carribean and we are leaving from NYC.

I have been to Club Med Turks and Caicos and agree it is single minded. I went when I was single with 6 single girls!

I think a cruise would be nice. There are so many. I went on a cruise from Bermuda last July and it is definitely relaxing and the island is beautiful and the food is great. I used Celebrity but I hear Royal Carribbean is also nice.

I always recommend Dominican Republic for those on a budget. I recommend the Iberostar Bavarro in Punta Cana. I've been to DR twice (once there and once ito Puerta Plata) and love it. The island is poor but the resorts are gorgeous. You get so much for your money! Just remember you are in a Spanish speaking country ... so not much english.

Many of my friends did the Sandals resorts. I heard Antigua and Jamaica are both great. Don't know about the prices.

My Fh brother and wife just got back from dominican republic punta cana and said it was amazing! The resort was like the size of New Hyde park and beautiful, yeah the surrounding area is not great but look at jamaica and you get it for soooo cheap, they go a week with flight and everything for 850!! granted they werent on their honeymoon but im sure the prices would still be good! Oh speaking of which that is another tip i got while talking with some people the other day, a girl said that when you walk into a travel agency and tell them you are planning a honeymoon they jack up the price right off the bat 35%!!! I plan on leaving my ring at home! I cant afford things as it is! Another friend and her boyfriend are going to Dominican republic next week so i can tell you when they get back if you are interested. I went on a carnival cruise last summer and it was awesome!There were alot of families and kids though so I myself wouldnt be into a cruise for a honeymoon but Im sure there might be some couple oriented cruises. Never been to club med or heard much about it. Another cheap spot is Mexico, me and my now Fh went a couple years ago to an all inclusive for 1k each for a week in a jacuzzi room and had a blast it was fabulous! I'm still sooo confused, but thanks for all the info...We heard the same about the Dominican Republic, so we'll probably check that out. We priced a Carnival cruise, and it is in our price range, but now I'm worried about hearing about a lot of kids being there. We are in the process of contacting a travel agent regarding cruises that are more 'couple' oriented... I will keep you posted! Thanks again!

NO matter where you go that week it is going to be alot of money . Try looking for couple only places becasue you will also see alot of kids...
You may might want to leave before christmas and come home after Jan 2. The prices for Airfare are alot during this time of year,
FYI Aruba's 'off' season from April 15th to OCt 15th
The other times are High season

If you are thinking of DR...the site to check out is Debbie's Dominican Republic Website. there is soo much info on there that you can totally be informed of what to expect when you go there! I also recommend using Apple Vactaion Tours for DR. They seem to get you the best prices. You can go there for about $2,000 (all inclusive-airfare, hotel, trnasfers, food and alcohol) for both of you. I went in March during spring break so it was a little more but I got pricing for $800pp for 5 days in April...

We put a deposit down on a carnival cruise. After talking to various people regarding my concerns about too many kids, they stressed I shouldn't worry about it...We leave on Dec. 22 aboard the Carnival Conquest, a brand new ship setting sail for the first time on Dec. 1!!! We leave from New Orleans (which I am so psyched about - we're going to stay one or two nights there first). The cruise goes to Ocho Rios, Grand Caymen and Cozumel. It's 7 days...and we got the private balcony. We can change our minds for a full refund till Oct. but I think we're gonna stick with it. It sounds really beautiful and I continue to hear good things about cruises. I've heard the best about Royal Carribean, but we just can't afford it...but I've heard really positive stuff about Carnival too (aside from the kids). If we change our minds, I'll let you know, but as of now Jamaica, Grand Caymen and Mexico...HERE WE COME!!
