Well Rome is obviously a must, besides that's most likely where you'll fly in to. I HIGHLY recommend Florence, it has that real old world Italy feel. Pompei is awesome because of the history behind it, with all of the old ruins from the volcano eruption. My other favorite spot is Capri. If you go, you MUST go see the Blue Grotto. You take a boat out and then switch onto a little canoe and then ride into basically a cave. But once you get in, the water is crystal blue!

on the main land i thought venice was the most romantic (and SO COOL). but you dont need to spend more than 4 days there. florence is my 2nd choice. i wish i spent more than a few days there. rome was ok. milan was ok. pompie (spelling) was ok lol. thats all i saw. its a fantastic country.

I flew into milan because it was the cheapest, then took the train down to venice, florence, rome, and pompie and then flew out of rome.

We are going to Italy on our HM. We are flying into Florence and spending a couple of days there then we are heading to Pisa and Lucca. Next we are going back to Florence- We booked a 6 day/ 5 night private tour that includes three cooking classes:
http://www.girosole.com/italy-walking-tours/tuscany-cook-walk.html

After the tour we are heading to the island of Elba for a couple of days to relax! Then back to Florence for the last night and then home. We will be gone for 16 days!!
Check out booking.com and tripadvisor for hotels. We have not finalized the hotels yet but we used these two sights to narrow done the choices.

I was actually wondering if there was a lot to do in Sicily. I have distant relatives from there so I always wanted to go.

One tip - look into flying Delta directly to Venice - its a smaller and less-traveled airport than Milan or Rome and its very easy to get to the main lagoon on the vaporetto from the airport. You could spend a few days there and then travel on the train either into Italy or, alternatively, the other direction on the Adriatic - Croatia is beautiful (from what I have only seen in pictures). Anyway, FM me if I can help with other suggestions - I travel there frequently for work and lived there for a few months during college. Good luck!!

Re: Honeymoon in Italy?

I been all over Italy and lived in Rome.

Sicily there are a tons of things to see and do but it is easiest traveled while renting a car or taking a bus. The trains are pretty bad.Getting a flight from all major cities is pretty cheap and freq. I been to Sicily like 25 times b.c my entire family lives there.

Rome to Florence is an hour-half via Eurostar(the super fast train)and Rome to Naples is hour via Eurostar as well.

If its your 1st time in Italy I would suggest doing Rome, Florence(Pisa its a short trainride from Florence), and Venice( 4hours from Rome via Eurostar about 2.5 hours from Venice).

Venice is a nice option and I would suggest staying in Mestre or Jesolo its the area next to Venice and much cheaper, than staying in Venice. They have buses that run pretty freq.
Croatia I went this summer is really beutiful and relaxing. It would be a def rent a car from Venice b.c buses and trains are not that great.

FM with any questions.
