Hi everyone. We always wanted to go to Mexico- the culture seems amazing, and the activities and weather, and it's comparitively affordable! However, we are both nervous since we have heard horror stories about 'Montezuma's Revenge' and people getting deathly sick on vacation.
Does anyone know more about this? We are looking at the Aventura Spa Palace in Riviera Maya.

I was a victim of 'Montezuma's Revenge' when I went to Mexico about 4 years ago.
I thought I was doing everything carefuly to avoid it.... but somehoe, somwhere I must have slipped. It was only bad for about a day or 2 and then I was fine. But it wasn't as bad as some people made it out to be.

We honeymooned at Aventura Spa Palace and it was INCREDIBLE!! Dont let people scare you with Montezuma's Revenge. Thats just nuts. So many places have filtered water. Aventura Spa Palace does. We had cocktails the whole 10 days we were there, drank water, and even had ice in all of our drinks. We were completely FINE. We even went to a restaurant on the beach at playa del carmen and I drank their water, I was fine. Go for it! i went to riviera maya about 2 yrs ago for a vaca and it was amazing! It was so relaxing. I wouldn't let some people's stories about 'Montezuma's Revenge' because everyone is different. I was with 5 of my friends, and none of us got sick. We had a great time!

WE LOVED aventura.. we went for my FH 30th bday and its on our list of posssible honeymoons
its spotless, the service is great.. and none o us got sick.. and im sensitive to things.. everything is filtered there
the workout classes were great..the gym is top of the line i loved the food.. the best is their mexican restuarant.. great breakfast.. at lunch they have these fresh taco stations set up
and belive me we were never thirsty.. there were liqour bottles in our room.. fridge was stoked ith beer and water.. and i think juices.. in the lobby and walkways there are fountains set up with strawberry daq. and pina coladas
also it was so fun to get cayacks and go in the ocean... the ocean is blocked off buy rocks.. so nothing big can get you!

I am going to Aventura for my HM in Nov!!! cant wait. WE have been to MX before, and most of these major resorts have filtered water, so there is nothing to worry about. But still, just drink bottled water. Its the little places outside of the resort that you have to worry about. Dont worry...

We went to Cabo San Lucas and stayed at Riu Palace and all the water was filtered.. We did eat out and at the end of the trip I got sick but it wasnt so bad..

Try to also avoid mix drinks because of the ice cubes.......they did a # on me. Bring medicine just in case........we had a hard time with that because bottles were written in spanish.

fh and i went to mexico 2 years ago and neither one of us got sick. we drank the bottled water and the mixed drinks and we are okay. i mean the first thing they told us when we got there was not to drink the water unless it was bottled. and the ice cubes they used were from the bottled water. so i feel like it is hard to get sick as long as you dont drink the faucet water.

I just went on their website and I want to thank you because I know where I am going!! It's gorgeous! Don't worry about Montezuna's revenge. The hotels are extremely careful now a days and only use filtered water.. even for the ice. I've been to Mexico a few times and have never been sick... Go and Enjoy! Good luck!

We are going to Mexico in November for our honeymoon. I am not worried, all the water is filtered. To be on the safe side though, my doctor is writing me some sort of prescription that I can fill and bring with me in case one of us gets sick. Pack some pepto and immodium.....

I went to Cancun last year for a week and we were fine. All the resorts water is filterd - they did tell us to watch when we were in town at little restaraunts and bars tho....

DH and I went to Riviera Maya this summer, and neither of us got sick. You just have to be careful with what you eat and drink. Aventura Spa Palace is a big resort, so they should have filtered water and bottled water available. As long as the water in the room is filtered you shouldn't have to worry about brushing your teeth or showering. We stayed at a nice resort and never had to worry about what we ate or drank there because they served purified water and used it to clean the food. But if you go to eat outside of the resort avoid foods that have to be cleaned, like salad and fruit.
