If you wanted to stay relatively local, you could go up to Lake George and stay at a cabin on the lake. It's beautiful ANY time of year upstate - although summers are obviously more busy than winters. You could also go to Conn. Perhaps Mystic? Then maybe even foxwoods. If you go up that way you could even go to Rhode Island. Or if you are getting married in the colder months, perhaps a ski location up in the mtns? The Poconos? Off the top of my head those are the only places that I can think of...If I think of anymore, I'll post them! GOOD LUCK.

Maybe you could do New England, or go to Niagra Falls, both on the American and Canadian sides it is beautiful, although it is a little nicer on the Canadian side. Or even drive south. Maybe drive down to Florida, and make stops along the way.

I always recommend Newport, RI. We wound up spending our honeymoon because we got married 9/15 and had to postpone our Canary Islands trip because of 9/11. It's a easy trip from LI. Just hop on the Ferry to Conn. and drive a few hours to Newport.

Bar Harbour, Maine is beautiful. We didn't go there on our honeymoon, we went a couple of years ago. It's a long drive but we broke it up by stopping in the boston area for a night.

I would recommend Caesars Pocono Resorts in Pennsylvania. There are three resorts to choose from and they cater to honeymoomers.

I have heard the beaches are great and there is good golf if you or your FH is into that. I don't know what month you are going, but I think even in the fall/winter it is on the warm side here.

What time of year? We went there the first week of May for our honeymoon - temps in the 70's and 80's, lots of golf, beach, and tourism and about an hour and half drive to Charleston if you want to see some of the big old mansions. Just make sure it's not Biker Week - there are a couple of them later in May so watch for that if you're getting married in the spring. Spring break time could be crazy too - might want to avoid that.

Block Island!!!!
Was the ferry ride the only thing you didnt like. We had a wonderful vacation there 2 summers ago. It was one of our most memorable. Its a beautiful place, quiet, romantic. Some very special sites and nice restuants. We had a phenomenal time!

Block Island!!!!
Block Island is beautiful. Absolutely a very romantic place to go. Little trails that take you to a beach where you are the only people there. Try taking the ferry from Newport it's alot closer than from Montauk.

Mohonk Mountain
We went to Mohonk Mountain and absolutely loved the place. It`s about 90 minutes from NYC .. exit 18 off the NYS Thruway. Since we had to keep our honeymoon short, and we were staying close to home, we decided to go all out in booking the best room .. a tower room. It is expensive, but was so worth it. We built a fire in the fireplace each night, and sat out on the balcony gazing at the stars in rocking chairs while chatting. We never went to the dining room .. always ordered room service. There was so much to do there .. hiking, horseback riding, plus boats you could take out onto the lake, etc. This was the only place my husband and I have ever been to in all the time we`ve been together, that he said 'We have to come back here!' So we`ve discussed making this our anniversary spot. It`s close enough we can do this every year. The rooms are beautiful, and the place is so calm .. no tvs, no radios .. a REAL getaway! Plus, they even left a little present on the bed in honor of our wedding! Oh, and the food is outrageous! It was totally worth every penny we spent! http://www.mohonk.com

Block Island!!!! also...
if the water is calm the ride is much easier! There are so many B&B's to choose from and you could also rent a condo on the beach. Great place!

Mount Washington Valley, NH
I recommend this area highly. There are tons of things to do no matter what time of the year you go. There are many beautiful places to stay and it is like being in another world. We went there for the last 6 days of our honeymoon and could have stayed for another week. We are actually going up in a couple of weeks for a long weekend to celebrate my husband's birthday. We got a fantastic rate for a gorgeous suite with breakfast and dinner included. Worth the 7 hour drive for sure.Welcome New Vendors
