we just went the the travel agent... liberty travel in huntington, they were a BIG help!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we weren't sure what we wanted to do and i think we have narrowed it down to cancun or riviera maya. anyone have opinions about either place? i've been to cancun but never riviera maya... TIA

My friend did Riviera Maya for her HM and LOVED it. I think there's less to do there when you go off the resort. FH and I have been to Cancun a couple of times together and it was INCREDIBLE! The water is beautiful, the sand is soft, and there's sooo much to do during the day and night! We stayed at both Dreams Cancun Resort and Spa and Riu Palace (both AI). They were both TERRIFIC, but Dreams was REALLY incredible. I think it ruined all other vacations for us! It was such a top notch resort, really romantic, with PLENTY of stuff to do. And it's the perfect location in Cancun because it's surrounded by water on 3 sides (where the Carribbean Sea meets the Gulf of Mexico). I highly recommend Cancun, especially if you're looking for a place where there's still plenty to do besides lie on the beach and canoodle in your room

I just booked our HM. It was also between Rivera Maya @ the Excellence Playa Mujeres and CANCUN. We chose The Royal Cancun, Adults ONLY all inclusive instead, b/c not only do we love the ocean but we also love the nightlife, which rivera Maya can not provide b/c its more secluded for couples. The Royal Cancun is an adults only resort right in the hotel zone, close by to shopping malls, night clubs(which we love) water park. It all depends on what you and FH like to do. If you are 2 are not much into the night life then you should go to the Rivera Maya, it does look beautiful Good Luck.

i have been to both places.. they are both beautiful!!!! the only difference is, there is more things to do outside of the resort at cancun then at riviera maya (night life wise) other than that you will have a great time either way!

We went to Riviera Maya for our HM. There really isn't much nightlife outside of the resort but we were about to take a day trip to Cancun. We werent' really looking for nightlife anyways on our HM. We did do a lot of excursions outside of the resort such as swimming with the dolphins, snorkling, parasailing, jet skiing, went to the mayan ruins and shopping in Cancun. Also, your resort will have bars and clubs if that's what you're looking for. Cancun is only a 45 mins car ride from Riviera Maya. I didn't really notice a difference in the beach. By the way, which resort are you looking at?

i agree... we aren't really looking for nightlife. so that's why i think riviera maya is the way to go. thanks everyone!!!
