I have to laugh because about a week ago I was in the same spot as you deciding between the same two resorts...We went with the Riviera Cancun...It is so beautiful...And we are getting married a week after you so if you go there we might be there the same time...that would be so funny...let me know

I know this thread is a few weeks old, but I had to add to it because DH and I are currently trying to plan a trip to Riviera Maya for this summer and we're having a hard time choosing a resort. I've been doing tons of research and it seems like every hotel we look into, even the 5 star ones, has some negatives. We are considering the Excellence Riviera Cancun as well after ruling out a lot of other hotels. It seems to be very nice and I've read tons of reviews of it on Tripadvisor. They were mostly good, with a few bad reviews - mostly about there being bugs in the room. I don't know if that problem is specific to that hotel or if it's just something that happens in a tropical setting in general. I am hesitant to book it because I've heard the beach isn't that nice. I've been to Aruba and the beach there was amazing! Crystal clear water that was so calm! But there's not much to do in Aruba, and DH loves the idea of exploring the Mayan ruins, so that's why we want to go to Riviera Maya. I've read that a lot of the beaches in Cancun and Riviera maya were damaged by the hurricane, and that they're not as nice as they used to be. But even though I've read a lot of complaints about the beach at the Excellence, it did look pretty in the traveller photos on tripadvisor, just not as nice as the beaches in Aruba. I guess you and your FH have to just figure out what's most important to you in a vacation. Good luck!

Have you looked into Sandals Antigua? I've heard nothing but good things about it from others and it's where I'm going.
