My FH and I think an Alaskan cruise is a great idea. My mom thinks we're crazy. I just don't want to do anything in the Atlantic during July b/c in right in the middle of hurricane season.
ETA: How early should I book the crusie and should I do it through a website like cheaptickets or expedia or should I go to a travel agent?

I think it's a great idea! I know friends who have gone on cruises to Alaska, and they had a great time. Who said honeymoon has to be to warm places? You should go to wherever you and FI want to go!

I went on an Alaskan cruise in June 2002. It was beautiful and the excursions were a lot of fun. The cruise would've been wonderful except for the fact that I get seasick. If you like cruises and have the stomach for it, I'd definitely recommend Alaska.

That's a great idea. I'd say go for it. Plus it's something that is all inclusive for the most part so it'll definitely be cost affective.

Do a search on here for Alaska and you can find a review and pictures of a vacation that (at least) one bride took. My girlfriend is getting married this July and has been all over the Carribean a million times so they decided to go on an Alaskan cruise for their honeymoon.

I went on an Alaskan cruise June '03. The scenery is absolutely positively breathtaking!! FH would have considered it for our HM, but you can't cruise Alaska in October, so we're cruising Europe instead.

Re: Honeymoon q
A few options:
1. The Alaskan cruise is wonderful!!! My uncle did this and the picture he had were terrific, esp. of the bears on Kodiak Island!!! Besides, it will be cold and and give you more reason to snuggle with FH or stay in bed with him!!!
2. If you are interested in the Caribbean in July - you are safe! Hurricane season really begins in August.
3. However, if that still doesn't settle any nerves - you can try Aruba which is out of the hurricane belt and the beaches there are fabolous and there is a lot to do!

Re: Honeymoon q
Will it really be that cold in July?
I love cruises so I would say do it! It is your honeymoon so you should go where you like. I am all for getting a good deal, so I would recommend you try Cruise Compete to get pricing. I also like Cruise Critic and Vacations to Go for information. Good luck!

FH & I are cruisers, & it's not uncommon for our bar bill to just as much as the trip....

Re: Honeymoon q
My parents have been on Alaskian cruises and they say its great. I am not much for the cold, so I haven't been, but we are thinking about it for the future. It will be about 60 degrees in July my parents said.
I used Dawn from Cruise one and she is great! You should give her a call. She is under the vendors as Dawn Vacation Specialist.
Get a room with a balcony, because there is going to be some beautiful views. Plus, a balcony room is more spacious, and good for a HM. I would look into Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Princess, or Holland America. Those are great cruise lines.
If you are worried about Hurricane season you could always go to Aruba, since its out of the Hurricane belt. Or a cruise to Europe or Hawaii.

Re: Honeymoon q
I hear it is gorgeous...my FIL's did it & said it was the best vacation ever.
However, my bro & SIL checked into this for their hm (July)& their travel agent dissuaded (hehe) them mentioning they'd probably be the youngest on the ship. If that wouldn't bother you then go for it. FIL's also said most were seniors....
