HoneyMoon Question

HoneyMoon Question

Danielle and I have been discussing our honeymoon lately. We have it narrowed down to 2 ideas. The first being a cruise to Bermuda. We would get an outside cabin with the deck. The second idea is to go to Sandals in St Lucia.

Now the problem. I have never been on a cruise before. I get sea sick, airsick, and even car sick if I am in the back seat for long rides. I usually have to take Dramamine for air, boat, or car rides.

Will I get sick on the cruise? Should we take the chance and go? Danielles mom was talking about the patch that goes behind the ear, and also the shot that you can get that will eleminate the sea sickness. Do those work?

We can get a really good package deal for a cruise, and it is alot cheaper also. My cousin works for cruisesonly.com and he would set us up with an awesome deal.

I would also love to go to Sandals, but it is going to cost around $4500. We havent gone to a travel agent yet, I just priced the trip out on the internet so far.

I want to have a nice relaxing time on my honeymoon and I dont want to worry about getting sick. Ive always wanted to go on a cruise, because I heard such good things from my family and friends that have gone before.

What do I do????

My parents have been on several cruises...and they swear that the patch behind the ear is the best thing ever invented!

Re: HoneyMoon Question

we love cruises!!!! we are taking a 10-day cruise through the south pacific for our HM.

which cruise line and ship would you be taking? most cruise ships are so large they have built-in stabilizers and you don't even realize that you are on the water. if you are prone to motion-sickness, you should probably stay away from the super-small ships and go for something in the 1,500 - 3,000 passenger range. the larger the boat, the less movement you generally feel.

good luck!!!

ETA: i see your wedding date is during hurrican season. you may want to avoid Bermuda as that is smack in the center of the hurricane belt.

Re: HoneyMoon Question

I've never been on a cruise, but the idea of it just doesn't appeal to me. I mean maybe sometime in the future, but not for my honeymoon. Being on a crowded boat with other tourists just equals a big headache to me.

If I went to St. Lucia, I wouldn't go to Sandals either. Sandals just seems like a crowded place too, but I wouldn't know. I'm looking to go somewhere kind of secluded and romantic like Ladera Resort. But it's expensive.

I used that patch and it worked for me, and my mother used them too, and she gets sick alot.

I voted for St Lucia. I've never been on a cruise - they don't appeal to me...but I've been to Sandals St Lucia and absolutely LOVED it. Sandals is top notch and St Lucia is a beautiful island.

Re: HoneyMoon Question

We're doing 1 week in Aruba at the Hyatt and a 1 week RC cruise to the USVI's (outside cabin with deck). We are paying about $4500 for the entire 2 week HM. My sister and BIL went to Sandals St. Lucia for their HM & loved it. I know Sandals is expensive but so many people swear by it b/c you don't have to carry any money around with you. We chose not to do an AI in Aruba b/c everyone told us how great the restaurants are & we shouldn't lock ourselves into only the ones at our hotel. Otherwise, we were going to do a Sandal's.

I happen to love cruises b/c there is so much to do and depending on how many stops the ship makes, you might only have 1 or 2 full days where you don't get off the ship at all. Our cruise is stopping practically everyday so we can either get off & sightsee or not. And I would go with the patch if I were you.

Re: HoneyMoon Question

If we decide to go on the cruise, I guess can get the patch on the boat right? Also, do you have any opinions on the shot? Is it worth it to just get that?

As for which boat we are planning to go on, Im not sure. I totally forgot about hurricane season. Where is good to go cruising in August then? Danielle really wants to go to Bermuda. I wanted to goto the Bahamas but she doesnt want to, and then people were telling us to go to Alaska because it is simply beautiful but we werent sure about going there on our honeymoon.

Ive heard such good things about Sandals. I am leaning towards that because there are no kids allowed and it is all couples. ON a cruise there are tons of kids and families...and I dont know if I want to deal with that.

Sandals is also better because everything is included food, drink, activites...tips, tax, everything....So you dont need money....

Argh....im sooo confused.

Re: HoneyMoon Question

I don't know anyone who has gotten the shot, I just know that I've heard the patch works great. I thought you had to get it before the cruise though? But you really can't feel the boat moving too much. These things are so big! I felt it mostly in the dining rooms (which were at the ends of the ship last time) and believe it or not, in the shower a little. Bermuda in August should be fine and I've heard it's beautiful and definitely convenient b/c you can leave from NY. I just don't know how many or where you make stops between NY and Bermuda?? I've only been on Carnival which was fine but we're taking Royal Carib. for the HM - everyone tells me it's a nicer cruiseline. I don't know anything about any of the others. My aunt did a cruise to Alaska & loved it but that's a totally different kind of vacation. It depends on what kind of HM you want - tropical or not. GL with your decision!

Re: HoneyMoon Question

I think the patch is by prescription only, so you would need to call your DR ahead of time.

As for children on your cruise - since it is August you may run into an issue. certain cruise lines - like princess, limit the amount of children on each cruise. lines like carnival and RCI are much more likely to have kids of them. if that's a big downer for only, then an adults-only resort might be a better answer for you.

good luck!!! all of your choices are fabulous - i don't think you can go wrong with any of them!!

Re: HoneyMoon Question

The only thing you'd need money for while at Sandals, is if you choose to do any excursions - which we did. We toured the island by catamaran and bus...and we went on a sunset cruise (aka: booze cruise!) on a catamaran as well. All was worth it - it was great to see the island.

Re: HoneyMoon Question

I could of sworn the patch was available on the ship....

Re: HoneyMoon Question

Yeah, I would think the patch would be available on the cruise. I believe it's also available at drug stores - you don't need an rx for it. My mom used it years ago on a cruise to Bermuda...she still got sick though.

Re: HoneyMoon Question

I have been doing so much research on where to stay if we go to St. Lucia for honeymoon. I've read reviews on tripadvisor.com, and I'm a little turned off of the Sandals Grande b/c I just read too many reviews of the rooms people wanted not being available the first day or they were downgraded or something.

These are the two I'm trying to decide between: http://www.ladera.com/accomodations.asp and
http://www.tikaye.com

I'm a little worried though because they say the roads are so bad going in Ti Kaye that you might not travel out of there too much. But that's the one that has pretty good honeymoon packages. I wish the airfare from NY to there weren't so expensive.

Re: HoneyMoon Question

Thats kind of wierd that Ladera doesnt have a fourth wall in the rooms....Its completely open.....I wouldnt want that.

Re: HoneyMoon Question

It's supposed to be natury or something. I don't think we can stay at Ladera anyway because the rates are really expensive, but it really looks beautiful. I don't know, I am very, very picky now with where we stay. Ever since I went to Hawaii a few months ago and stayed at a hotel that I really didn't think was that nice and charged an arm and a leg for every little thing, I'm trying to do research first.

Here's a link of St. Lucia hotels with reviews on Tripadvisor to help you out if your interested

Re: HoneyMoon Question

I was on a cruise last year and FI who gets sick on boats, planes etc...had the patch and he was fine and loved every minute.

Me on the other had dont usually get sick and really didnt feel that great a lot of the time. I didnt have the patch but just felt kind a weird most of the time...i couldnt look at the water whenever the ship was moving.

If it were me I would play it safe and do a land HM so you know 100% sure that you will be happy and healthy!

Good Luck!

Re: HoneyMoon Question

Chloe...thanks for the reply...I think you may be right.

If it were up to me We would goto California coast or maybe Vegas for our HM...but Danielle doesnt want to go there for our honeymoon....Oh well....I want this to be an amazing trip you know.....but everything is just so expensive, its crazy.
