Re: Honeymoon Registry - what amounts should guests pay?

Posted by Oct2010Bride2Be

We set up a honeymoon registry and now people are starting to send us gifts from it - so far I got an email last night from a distant relative on my mom's side who paid $ 100 toward our HM registry..(Yes she's already RSVP'ed yes to the wedding).

Not sure but isn't $ 100 kinda low? Or should I just be grateful they even bothered with a gift?

Why is $100 kind of low?

Is this for your shower or your actual wedding gift?

maybe she's getting you something else from another registry too ... though $100 is not bad if she's coming alone (i found that a majority of our guests gave $100 per adult ... though some gave more, and others less)

Actual wedding gift, and she and her fiance are coming to the reception. My mom and I know her salary (over 65K), so I'm just curious whether $100 is ok, I have a feeling that may be the only gift she would give us...

I mean, personally I wouldnt give $100 as a wedding gift for 2 people, even if the wedding was at McDonalds on a Wed afternoon. I would give more. But everyone is different and you cannot expect everyone to be like you. Yes, it is very disappointing but it's better than getting nothing. Maybe she will give cash too. You never know.

it's a little cheap for 2 people to give $100 but just let it go .... you'll have other guests that will make up for this

Seriously?

I mean this with annoyance and not disrespect... but what business is it for you and your mom to be sitting around talking about how much she makes or how much she's giving to you in relation to her salary?

If you're going to get all judgey on people - at least wait until all is said and done. Maybe they're giving you THAT and then writing a check in a card at the reception.

Or maybe they aren't giving you anything else. Either way. You'll live.

Yes I know I will live but your tone is disrespectful to me.

Maybe she was giving it to you as a shower gift? It is pointless to go back and forth about what the gift means. I used it for my shower and some people not invited to the shower also bought us something from the registry. Is it our wedding gift? Who knows! But I can't really worry about it at this point.

Face it - you might feel stiffed by people at your wedding but just remember that bringing a gift is not mandatory and there's no sense getting worked up about it as long as you keep that in mind.

I agree. You can't nickel and dime people and people will give what they want/can/afford and you really should just be grateful for that. You can't get caught up in what people are spending and how much they make, becaus it will drive you crazy and you can't control it anyway

I'd rather be taken as 'disrespectul' by a complete stranger (even though, I said... don't take this disrespectfully... I'm just annoyed with what you said) than actually BEING disrespectful to a family member/friend.

I'm calling it like it is. You aren't 'required' to bring a gift anywhere.

A gift is a gift. It should be given without expectation but received with poise no matter how large or small.

You want to be mad I'm calling you on your behavior - fine. But don't let the people who know you in real life find out you're talking about them like this.

Don't even let the people you AREN'T talking about like this find out... they'll figure if you talk like that to them about other people ... who are you talking to about them?

And nevermind them - who's is inevitably talking about you?
