HONEYMOON $$$$$$$$ SAN FRAN

Ladies i am in shock at the rates my agent is getting for hotels in san fran...they are coming in at 380- 450 per night....i can't believe it!!!! This is for hotels in the Union Square/Nob Hill area... I even double check myself on hotels.com and they are the same. I mean, i don't need a 5 star, but at the same time, i don't want a dive!

Any suggestions on how to bring it down?

Maybe you can see if something is going in in that area the time you are planning on going.... like a convention or something

I've had good luck getting nice hotels through Priceline. They let you select what number of stars you want and what area you want to stay in. We went to Napa 2 years ago and we stayed at the Napa Marriott for 1/2 price per night.

that's considered a 'ritzy' part of the city.
You could probly find a more middle of the road hotel in a different area. It's pretty easy to get around the city, but you'll need to study the transity maps, which you would have to do anyway.

I went there a while back and we stayed by Fisherman's wharf. It was really nice there.

I book all my hotels through Hotwire and I usually get amazing rates. Last summer I used it to book a few nights in annapolis, maryland and I got the Sheraton for $59 a night on a weekend. The only down side is that they don't tell you what hotel it is until after you book but they do tell you how many stars the hotel has so you can guess by that, they also tell you what amenities the hotel offers. I did a search for you on hotwire for San Fran hotels in Union Square East, Union Square West and Nobb hill. I searched from 10/2/06- 10/9/06 because I wasn't sure how long you wanted to stay. There is a 4.5 start in Union Square West for $141 a night and a 4 star in Union Square east for $169 a night and a 3 star in Nobb hill for $138 a night. Those prices are per room and the prices I listed are the highest one's in that area, they do offer hotels with lower stars for less. There is a 2 start for $65 and a one star for $59. I'll add the link but I'm not sure if its going to work. Hotwire hotel deals
You can also search for air and hotel combined. When you do a search this way they let you know the name of hte hotel in advance as well as the flight time. I found one for the same dates at the Carlton Hotel in Union Square for $698 a person and that includes airfare. There's also a new hotel called hotel adaigo which is $893 a person including airfare. Here is a description I copied from teh site: Located 2 1/2 blocks away from the Powell Street Cable Car line, 6 blocks from the Moscone Convention Center and is close in proximity to Chinatown, the Financial District, North Beach, Nob Hill, and SOMA.
Here is the link to the site Hotwire air and hotel combo Hope this helps. If the links don't work or if you planned on going during different dates you can log on to www.hotwire.com and do a search for either hotels alone or both hotels and airfare. I really love hotwire!

We went to San Fran for our honeymoon. We stayed at the Hotel Rex in Union Square. It was around $120 a night. It was very nice, but the room was very small. We didn't spend much time in it, so it was great for us. It's in a very good location (close to public transportation) and the staff was great.

FM me for more info

We went to San Fran about a year and a half ago and stayed at the Grosvenor Suites. Very very good prices & great location. It is more of an apartment than a hotel room - and has maid service.

Definitely worth checking out.

Good Luck!
