Honeymoon: Sandals???

The only Sandal resort I stayed at was in Jamaica but I have been to both Antigua and St. Lucia. Here are my thoughts on both.

St. Lucia-Very romantic but very quiet. Not too much of a night life. Not the safest place to travel around town (and I'm West Indian)

Antigua-Lots of fun and partying. The beaches/water is a lot nicer. Safe to walk around.

By Fall of 2012 is what they told me! No word on pricing yet..

I went to Sandals La Toc (in St. Lucia) for my honeymoon and one of my best friends went to Sandals Antigua.

We're actually going BACK to la Toc in less than 2 weeks for our anniversary!

We were originally booked for our Anniversary trip at Grande Antigua, but the flights were totally out of control, so we decided to go back to St. Lucia. I would definitely look at that. jetBlue added a lot of flights to St. Lucia but they don't go to Antigua and it was almost impossible to find a direct flight to Antigua.

As far as the resorts go, both are large and beautiful, both feature luxury rondovals, which are pretty awesome. both have awesome dining. They are both on amazing beaches. The Grande St. Lucian is on a cove, so the water is almost always completely calm. It's also just steps away from Ft. Rodney, a national park. The grande Antiguan is on Dickenson bay, which is known as being one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. They both have BEAUTIFUL beaches, lots of great restaurants, firepits, etc etc

As far as the island themselves are concerned, i would say there is the biggest difference. Antigua is smaller with much less to do. The best way to see the island is to hire a driver and you can see a lot of it in a few hours. At the Grande Antigua,there is a casino right next to the resort, so that's awesome if you like that. There is a rainforest on antigua.

St Lucia has SO much to do. It has the Pitons, which are so beautiful, the world's only drive in volcano and mudbaths, waterfalls, rainforest, banana plantations and rum tours, St. Lucia Jazz, etc etc. There's a LOT more to do off of the resort.


I WOULD like to go to Antigua someday, but we decided to go back to St. Lucia because the flight was MUCH easier and cheaper and because there is still so much to do there even though we have already been!

Why did you choose the Grande St. Lucian over the other two? That would also give me some clue as to what you're really looking for.

I've seen February 2013 as the opening date. I just went to a Sandals training and they didn't mention them and you're right, no pricing yet. I would expect them to be more than the rondovals though, maybe more along the lines of the Millionaire's Suite..or maybe even more. I'd see if over $10K for a week is in your price range before waiting for them. Plus there won't be many so they will probably book up fast as soon as they go on sale.

Here's another thought -

At the Grande Antigua, the rondovals have EITHER a beachfront view OR a private plunge pool, at St Lucia you can have both as the beachfront ronodovals also have plunge pools.
