Honeymoon - So confused.

Honeymoon - So confused.

FH and I have decided that we're going to go on a cruise for our HM. I posted about this a while ago, and I got some suggestions for cruisecompete.com.

I've searched around the site -- and the prices are great!

We contacted a travel agent (one that FH knows) and she came back with some prices.

I ran one of the cruises she priced for us through cruisecompete.com.

Her price:

Caribbean Princess Feb 24th sailing out of Ft. Lauderdale to St.Maarten, St. Thomas, Princess Cays
Outside $2011.00
Balcony $2131.00

Cruise compete's prices:

Outside: $1,353.84 (Category G; $676.92 average cost per passenger) Lowest Quote!

Balcony: $1,784.34 (Category BF; $892.17 average cost per passenger) Lowest Quote!

Now - I don't understand the drastic difference here. I'm just nervous to go with cruisecompete, I don't know anyone who has actually used them, just people who have been suggested them, if that makes sense.

How does one company come up with one price, and another a price that is $400 more? Am I going to get screwed with a room on the end of the ship? I don't know what to think.

We're trying to spend as little as possible on the trip -- because we will spend A LOT of money while we're there. And, we want to buy a house, so, we'd rather spend less on the HM, and have more of a down payment.

HELP!

That is a tough one. Honestly, I'd call the TA back with the prices you found and talk to her about it. maybe she can work with the price she gave you since you obviously trust her more than this site you are on (b/c you haven't heard much about it). If she can't work with you or give you a reasonable explanation as to why her prices are a few hundred dollars more, I'd do some more research.

That's a good idea. I'll speak to Chris about that. Thanks!

Re: Honeymoon - So confused.

you see this alot...those type of sites will many times have prices that are alot lower, maybe its bc basically they work things out with the cruiseline, they get free advertising and this way cruisecompete can actually compete with others prices. Theres alot of sites like this, just like cheaptickets.com, you can get it on there lower than alot of other places...Theres a reason they can do this but its all on the business side and things they work out

Yeah, I just don't get it. I'm thinking the TA will have a reason, but, hopefully she'll also be able to come down a bit, so we can go with them.

I know that you will feel more comfortable going with the TA... I know I did. It doesn't hurt to talk to her about it. And, since she is a friend of Chris', maybe she will match the price (or come close) for you.

Did the travel agent's include air fair? Tha IS a drastic difference.

The only think I can think of is either cruisecompete doesnt take as much of a fee or they buy a bunch of spots and get a discount tht is pass onto you.

I agree- defnitely mention it to the TA.

No - the airfare is separate for both quotes.
