Has anyone booked Puerto Rico, Bahamas, or Greece please FM with your location info, and if you don't mind price range your paying..I had hte most aggravating experience yesterday with an agent I was referred to, everything I said she was like 'NO' you wont like it there, and blah blah..I was so annoyed and we need to get his booked asap.
Or give suggestions of places you are going that you got good rates, please!!!!!

just a heads up. call travel tom. you're not obligated to do anything with him except get his opinion on where to visit in greece. and who knows, you might be able to get a price from him also to compare. i didnt want to go with him but when i spoke to him on the phone, he turned out to be super helpful.
dont let travel agents tell you where is nice and not. you did the right thing - posting on here to get everyone's help.

well that makes a big difference since its hurricane season so should help...i would say to exclude bahamas, although i have been to the bahamas in august and we didnt really get that effected just a little

ok, Aug 4-12 is still considered 'high' season for Greece, so it's going to be a bit expensive to go there. Plus, it's the time when most locals go on vacation themselves...Aug 15 is a HUGE festival day for the Virgin Mary (and a federal holiday there), and since it falls in the middle of August, a lot of people take 2 weeks vacation beginning on Aug 1st.
So Athens will pretty much be deserted, flights to islands will be over booked, ferries to islands will be super packed, hotels and rooms to rent will be filled and expensive, shops and restaurants will shut down. Even some museums may shut down (if they're small and local). ALL beaches througout Greece will be SUPER PACKED...trust me!
August is also the heart of hurricane season for the Caribbean and Bahamas.
How about the Pacific Coast of Mexico (Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, etc). Or cruise to Hawaii from Los Angeles?

ITA! Travel Tom is awesome, super helpful. I think it's pretty rude of the travel agent to assume they know where you and your FH will like and dislike. That would make me wonder if they had ulterior motives.

I would also like to mention that Liberty Travel is having a sale on vacations to Mexico if you book by May 8. FH and I went to the one on 57th street between Lex and 3rd Ave in Manhattan yesterday, and were treated very nicely. We knew what we wanted, and when I showed them the exact same trip at a lower price through American Express Vacations, they honored the lower price.

I know right. The travel agents should want to help you and not turn you away from beautiful places like Greece, etc.
Also youre traveling peak season now so the fares will be at least $1000 difference. I think off peak season is right after Labor day until 2 weeks before Memorial weekend. I wanted to leave on August 23rd, the day after the wedding, but Tom mentioned to me that if I waited 2 more weeks I would save tons. And I did. I checked with another travel agent as well as online sites. We're not leaving for Italy until September 18th. It seems weird but I'd rather wait and save almost $2k.

It's rainy season there in mexico I think. But you know what, anywhere you decide to go you might face weather obstacles that you cannot predict. pick a place where you and FH will love.
