Honeymoon travel question

Honeymoon travel question

My original plan for my honeymoon was to go to Hawaii since we got a deal for the airfare from a website similar to groupon. I tried booking it and it came out to WAY more then I thought it would be. So now I'm trying to figure out where else I can go instead. I've thought of Costa Rica but it seemed very confusing to figure out where to stay, etc. Then I came across Sandals and I'm loving their St. Lucia ones since you get to visit all 3 resorts. I was wondering what you ladies suggest on how I should book it. Would a travel agent be better? Or through Sandals? I want the best deal possible, with some extras because duh it is our honeymoon lol. But I haven't used an actual travel agent in years and have always booked through a website. Any tips and recommendations would be great. Thanks ladies!

I never use travel agents except for Europe but that was different lol. I search obsessively online instead.

what about Mexico? we went to Mexico in Sept and really it was beyond amazing. we are going back for our HM and might even stay at the same hotel because we loved it so much. you get a lot for your money there. orbitz is having a sale in Mexico I think.

there's also a good deal for Barbados on groupon right now too. if we weren't going to Cali after our honeymoon I'd so be buying it lol. I'm still debating seeing if one of my girls wants to go.

or skyauction has good stuff too. I won a thing to ME Cabo for only like $600 for 4 nights when it should have been like $300 a night if I booked directly.

Costa Rica you def need to rent a car or private transfer or take a small plane to get basically anywhere. haven't been there but I spent hours reading about it awhile back.

I also always booked online but found that a travel agent would be better for honeymoon booking - if they can get any upgrades etc
And I didn't have all the time to research etc

We looked into Costa Rica but it would
Be the rainy season when we go.
We didn't want Mexico bc I'm so afarid of the water. We have been on so many caribbean vacations so wanted to be a place where we both never been w amazing beaches. So antigua it is. I used Melissa from trip guy! She's great and a liweddings bride. If you want her contract info just fm me

I never use a travel agent but used one for booking our honeymoon in Mexico. I only used the travel agent because we only had to pay the full airfare up front and a small deposit on the hotel. If we booked online we would have to pay the full amount for everything up front.

Thanks ladies! We love love Mexico, but since we've been there already, along with Jamaica and DR we want something different. @flynn14 she contacted me and has been SUPER helpful. I've fallen in love with sandals more each time I go on their website. I'm now trying to figure what room and resort to stay while also being realistic about my budget lol

I don't think you can go wrong with any Sandals resort! I've been to La Toc in St Lucia and Royal Bahamian in the Bahamas and they were both amazing! La Toc is really spread out and there was more of a party atmosphere later at night, but it was a looooong ride from the airport. Royal Bahamian was a really romantic setting with the private island and was only like 15 minutes from the airport, but it seemed like everyone was in bed by 11.

Hope that helps!

Thanks @poggi. What airport did you fly into? I was just looking at how far the airport was from there.

we are staying at sandals in st. lucia... we are staying in the piton oceanview two story butler suite at sandals la toc :)

We picked La Toc over the Grande (halcyon beach is supposedly for older couples and is a smaller resort).. the Grande is supposed to be nice as well, but my friend who stayed there said it has more of a 'party' atmosphere by the main pool and stuff.. she loved the grande and said the pool games and beach parties were alot of fun, but I decided on La Toc because it seemed to have more of the quiet romantic feel which is more my style... We will probably take the shuttle to the Grande and spend an afternoon there though just to check it out!

Whichever resort you choose, definitely stay in a butler room- they reserve pool chairs for you, arrange for all of your dinner reservations ahead of time so that you don't have to worry about finding a place to eat, they arrange for the spa stuff for you, airport transfers, etc. and they even give you a phone to call them at if you need anything thoughout your stay!

I don't remember the name of it but we flew delta and it was like an hour away. I don't know if there's one that's closer.

Personally I don't think you need to get a butler room. We had one at SRB but not at la Toc. The biggest incentive is that they make reservations for you so you get to eat everywhere (it can be tough getting reservations sometimes). We never had a problem getting a chair at the beach or pool when we didn't have one. Though it you do go to st Lucia and you get the butler you get a private transfer to and from the airport which is a lot nicer then being in a van with like 10 other people.

UVF is the one that's an hour away... SLU is the one that is like 15 mins away but it's a small airport and you can't really fly into that one

you can do a helicopter transfer from UVF though! haha

Thanks ladies. @cets1290 the helicopter sounds pretty good.@poggi I think we might do the butler for little things like making us a bubble bath and serving is for a private dinner. I'm glad to know getting a space near the pool and beach. We're thinking of doing the piton oceanview butler suite. We really wanted the honeymoon suite with that had a private pool and butler but it's sold out :( I want to visit the other two resorts and try their restaurants.

We're going to St. Lucia. We did hear a few negative reviews about it, but I really don't care. We figure that the people that left negative reviews probably just had bad company! The reviews we heard that were negative were from the Grande so we're staying at the other two (half and half). I figure that there's the possibility of having something go wrong anywhere and we want to experience it and love the idea of being able to go to 3 resorts.

We used a travel agent just because we didn't want to be responsible. We used them last year and they were great! But it's definitely not necessary.

I agree!! Things can go wrong anywhere. I'm definitely looking forward to eating at all the resorts and using their pools

I stayed at the Grande and loved it. We went to La Toc which is more spread out. It has shuttles though so you can take them around the property. At the grande everything is close enough. You can do a sandals gift registry online and the helicopter transfer is on there. It was 15 minutes instead of 2 hours and you get amazing views if the island...def rec it!

Thanks @jodilove I'll have to sign up for the gift registry. The helicopter transfer sounds much better then being stuck in a car for 2hrs after flying for almost 5 hrs.
