Honeymoon VENT

Honeymoon VENT

Alright, let me give you guys a little background. FH and I are going on a 12 day cruise in Europe visiting Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Croatia, and then back to Italy. We are leaving a couple of weeks after the wedding. Now, we are planning to stay in Barcelona for a night so we can explore Barcelona before hopping on the cruise which leaves at 7PM. We were initially going to fly in at 7AM which would be exhausting. I couldn't imagine wanting to hang out around Barcelona after flying out of NY on the red eye. So, we have decided to fly in the day before the cruise leaves and staying in a hotel. Now thanks to my wonderful FIL's- they are paying for our honeymoon. This is our wedding gift and I am VERY thankful for this. However, the travel agent is a freaking moron. FMIL uses her. I am doing all of the communication with this woman. FMIL is like HERE and gave me the ladies info, money for deposit. So, it's kind of weird that I am doing all this and FIL's are paying. I am a bargain hunter. I never rest until I get the best price. Even though they are paying for our whole trip, I still want to make sure they are paying the best price. I asked the travel Agent for details on a pre cruise in Barcelona. She sent me prices on properties and I nearly wanted to DIE. All costing more than $250 per person!!!!! I have family in Spain and know that this is WAY too expensive. This lady is going to hate me. I did re-search on Hotwire, and found a 4 star in Barcelona for $219 a night for 2 people! This lady seriously thinks that I am an a$$ who would let her overcharge me. I just sent her an email copying and pasting the information that I found on Hotwire. And, I checked with a relative of mine and they said this is a nice, legit hotel. I feel like I am at war with this travel agent. How do I tell FMIL that she is getting ripped??????? BTW, we did get an AMAZING deal on our cruise- travel agent gave us a great discount and we have a room on the top deck with concierge service which is awesome. But for the airfare and the pre cruise, she is seriously trying to screw us! Sorry, I just had to vent. Thanks for reading girlies!

Re: Honeymoon VENT

I would be honest with FMIL and tell her you've been researching the prices online and found them to be alot less than her travel agent is charging.

I think she would appreciate you saving her money, I know I would.

I would book the hotel and airfare online if you can find it for less.

Yea, I think I am going to do that. It will be difficult to make sure everything coincides with all the plans but I think I will be better off. I don't want to hurt FMIL's feelings and tell her that I think her travel agent is an overcharging a$$. But, I think I will tell FH and have him tell her.

Good idea....have him talk to him mom, that's always better. Good Luck and good for you for doing your research, travel agents use the same online resources as we do....my mom's boss is a travel agent and he gets the same prices I find online for certain trips....don't get dragged in

That's great that you found a great deal! I think you should be honest and let FMIL know what is going on with the TA. IMO I think TA's are not giving the better deal. GL

Honestly after the HM i don't think i'll be using a travel agent anymore. I'm sure ur FMIL will appreciate that you're doing all this work to save her money.

Yea, I HATE using travel agents. Initially, we were going to book it on our own but FMIL insisted to use the travel agent. She likes the idea of them taking care of her vacays for her- that aspect I can understand. However, travel agents need to make money too! I think they just mark things up to get a profit. So, I think I am done with travel agents after the honeymoon too! I traveled just fine without them in the past!

Re: Honeymoon VENT

The travel agent just emailed me. She is looking into the hotels and is getting back to me. It is one of these hotels- Intercontinental, Hyatt, Omni which are all pretty fantastic! I don't know where she was getting a price range of $500 per night. Ridiculous! So, I hope by the end of today I have my pre cruise booked!

Edited for typo.
