..So FH says we can't take the 11 day HM cruise I want to take because it's too expensive and we should stick with the 7 day one .....sooooo, I was thinking, couldn't I just NOT register for any gifts and create an HM registry and have people do that only, is that tacky??? We have mostly everything we need for our apartment. And when we buy a house then we can have a housewarming and I can register for the house stuff....THOUGHTS?

Re: ...Honeymoon versus Gift Registry
i would do the HM registry if you have most of the stuff you need. However i would still register for a few things just because you may have some family members that believe in purchasing a traditional gift vs. buying something toward the HM

Re: ...Honeymoon versus Gift Registry
from my own experience with the HM registry, people don't seem to like buying things off of it.
i think you should just not register anywhere .... that way, people will be more likely to give money.

So then at the bridal shower, we just skip the gift part? I think I could love this idea....I really just want that HM,

Re: ...Honeymoon versus Gift Registry
My mother and other family members think that HM registries are tacky and would never buy anything off of one - I don't understand it myself b/c they're the same as a gift registry (which is acceptable), but I guess they're traditional in their views. So based on that, I wouldn't rely on just a HM registry. For your wedding you'll most likely get $$ anyway - but for the shower you might wind up with gifts you don't want/need if you don't register.

hmm, she has a point .... ok, new plan: register at a place that gives cash refunds then return all of the gifts you get and get $$$ and go on your dream HM

and that's my fear, to receive unnecessary gifts. I think my crowd of guests are pretty traditional as well so I may have tthink this through very well....

Re: ...Honeymoon versus Gift Registry
if your fam isn't too old school... maybe have your mom and MOH spread the word that you really dont need anything house-wise.
and that cash or using a HM registry would work best for you guys and be most appreciated.
but i think you should still register for SOME gifts otherwise there's going to be that handful of people who WONT give cash and WILL buy a gift ... and WILL buy something random if you dont tell them what to buy.

OK this is what you should do- Def do the HM reg! But not everyone is going to buy you stuff off of there..... but then reg at BBB because they have the best return policy for ex. whatever was on your registery you can return it and get the cash for it- O store credit etc.
LoL Sounds messed up but this is what I did. We've had our house for 2 yrs now and I put things thats we already have that we really dont need and Im just going to return the stuff get the money and be living it up on my HM- LOL

LOL!!!!! To the world this sounds horrible but to brides, it makes so much sense! I want to live it up on my HM too!!!
So BBB does cash back, I like that...maybe I'll only register for like 10 things.

Re: ...Honeymoon versus Gift Registry
Yeah BBB gives 100% cash back.... but you should register for more then 10 thing bc if you have those old timers and they want to get you a gift that you can open and they dont have much of a choice on your registery then they are going to go out and buy you their own thing and your not going to know where its from...Thats by my BBB is filled w stuff and on March 28(the day after my shower- its alllllll going back)

Re: ...Honeymoon versus Gift Registry
I would like a HM registry, but I could see FH's family frowning at this......they're already bent out of shape that I want a garden ceremony, I could imagine what would happen if I didn't have a 'traditional' registry.
