Right now I'm registered for our engagement party, and FH and I have been living together for a yr+ so by the time my bridal shower comes along I will prob have most of what I need home wise. I will register for whatever is left that I need, but I do not expect it to be much (mostly bed/bath and whatever we didn't get for this registry).
I was wondering on what everyone's take is on the HM registry. Would you do it? Have you done it? What do you think of it? Have you ever purchased anything for anyone on a HM registry? Any recommended sites?
I saw other people commenting on this topic on knot boards and some people said it was tacky, but I think it seems like a good idea!
They seem to have a fee attached - like 7% - which you can have added on (like a tax/surcharge when people buy you something- the gift is $100, they pay $107) and deducted (if someone buys you something for $100 you only get $93). What would you do add on or deduct? Why?
I would thing adding it on wouldn't be a problem... When someone buys you a present from a store they pay a tax, right? This seems to be the same thing!
Any help/opinions are much appreciated!!! TIA ladies!!!

I was actually considering the same thing and have conflicting views. I am looking forward to seeing what others have to say. As for adding the fee I think that´s fine. I agree with you in regards to the point that they pay tax in the store.

Re: Honeymoonb Registry???
heyy ok same situation with us we just had a e-party and got some gifts that I don't want to use until we have a house to use them in, ie. down comforter, all new towels. So we've decided to do this... BB&B gives $$ back for things on your registry, so we are going to return the items we dont want/need right now get the cash and put it in the bank..
But we were also registered for the honeymoon registry, my mom personally thinks its tacky.. but honestly who cares.. if people are going to give you $$ why not put $ towares your honeymoon!
I didn't know about the fee? but maybe thats some items vs others right?
check this out it gives some info as to which one to use..

Re: Honeymoonb Registry???
We did it. We registered on a site called Traveler's Joy, and received a LOT of presents through it!
It was great when we were on our HM last week because it really took a lot of the pressure off us, money-wise, and let us splurge where we might have usually been more frugal. We actually received close to $2k towards our HM from our very generous friends and family!
If you'd like the link to our personal site, FM me. I'd be happy to show you!
No one thought it was tacky at all (at least no one told us or my parents so), and it was a great way to include people in our HM more than a person normally is. It also helped me a TON with planning, since I had to get it all plotted out so I would know what to 'register' for.
Oh, and just so you know, you get a check from them for the total amount of the items bought. You don't actually have to use any of it for what you've 'registered' for. It's extremely nice and convenient. This particular site also takes the smallest percentage in fees of similar sites. We had done a lot of research before choosing to do this.
ETA: As far as the 'add-on' amounts go, I just estimated how much things cost (especially since we were going to France where everything is in Euros). So I'd put down something like our cruise on the Seine for a total of $200 (I might put '4' at $50 each, so people could pick and choose what to give us until they total whatever amount they felt was appropriate for their gift) but really it was a totally different amount. I registered for a bottle of wine for $45, but it only ended up costing me 18 euros. It's really the thought that counts in that sort of registry.

Re: Honeymoonb Registry???
I'm not sure if we will be doing a HM Registry. I mean it does sound nice and would help a lot but we only have a 13 month engagement so I feel like it might be a lot with the engagement party (in 3 weeks), then my shower, then the wedding next August. We've lived together for more than 2 1/2 years already and live in a house so we have a lot of that regular bridal registry stuff. Maybe I can do the HM registry and then only a few things on the bridal registry & somehow combine the 2... THOUGHTS/OPINIONS WELCOMED!

Well that what I plan to do for my shower come next summer... I'll just place the enclosure csrds for the store that I register at plus the enclosure card for my HM registry. Or if I need to make my own insert card and place the two on them I will.

Re: Honeymoonb Registry???
FH and I are doing it now. Everyone told us to do it since we live together for a while and I have like every gadget from Pampered Chef and Tupperware and really cook all the time. We have most of everything we would register for...except a honeymoon and maybe we can upgrade a few items. At least a dozen people mentioned it to me when I never heard of it before... so I think initially, ppl didn't think much of it, but how they are set up, its not tacky at all. Check out Honeymoonwishes.com and it will walk you through it... In addition to this, we will probably register for a few things from BBB for wishing well and small appliance upgrades...

Re: Honeymoonb Registry???
I think it's a good idea but I think the fee of 7% is really high....I would be annoyed to pay it or have my guests pay it...I would rather register at BBB for gift cards. Pus you can return things off of it for cash...JMHO though!!

Re: Honeymoonb Registry???
a friend of mine was in a similar situation only they were together for 13 years or something long and then living together for 5 or 6 years so they didnt really need much at all. for her bridal shower, they registered through their travel agent- and there were no fees involved- atleast not that i noticed. i think i called the travel agent, told them my gift and they mail a gift certificate to you and then you can give it to them. something along those lines. (it was a couple of years ago)
I dont think its a bad thing to do when the couple has been living together for years and doesnt need much.

Think of it as a tax... When you buy a present do you get really annoyed you have to pay 8.625% tax on the product (which is more than 7%!!!)? And even if you do get annoyed at tax, you pay it because it's a fact of life. Unless it's tax free shopping week! Are we due for that anytime soon?
