I need big time advice on honeymoon destinations that will not cost us 5000 bucks. Fi and I are doing this wedding mainly ourselves, and we just can't afford 5 g's for a honeymoon. While we'd love to do Hawaii, it's just not in the cards. So...does anyone have suggestions for honeymoons that are in the 2500 vicinity??
We've been to the Bahamas, so any other suggestions would be much appreciated!

I think that you can get really good deals in the Dominican Republic and the resorts are supposed to be really nice - many of them all inclusive. I have never been, but a lot of my friends went this year and had nothing but good things to say about it.

I hear Jamaica is affordable as well as Punta Cana Dominican republic, Puerto Rico and Cancun or any place in mexico is usually pretty affordable.

We are going to an all inclusive in mexico. Its called Paridisus Rivera Cancun. Its just outside of cancun. Its all inclusive, 5 restaurnats, Jaccuzi on balcony, ocean front, all non motorized sports, some other extras and the whole trip inc air fare is under $3000. We are doing the wedding ourselves also and we just bought a house (acutally sept 30th is our closing I just wanted to go somewher nice to relax with my new hubby. As much as I would have loved to go to hawaii we cant afford it either. I cant complaine though, I have a house and a wedding so Mexico is just fine for me. Check with a travel agent, you can get alot for that amount. Sorry I didnt mean to babble

I went to Dominican Republic last year, to Punta Cana, all inclusive, with airfar for about $750 (per person) for 5 nights.... I think Puerta Plata is better though, b/c there is more resorts and bigger beach... We're thinking of going there for a honeymoon too. FIY, while in DR, we met a Dominican couple on their honeymoon. They made a suggestion to stay near santo domingo, b/c then you can enjoy the beach and do some siteseeing. there are a few places near there too.

My husband and I went to Aruba in April and Payed about $4200 with food and airfare and Hotels for 8 days. We stayed at La Cabana and got a package with all inclusive from our travel agent. Aruba's off season is April15-Oct 15 so the rates are alot cheaper

I agree with Dominican Republic.. Being that my mother was born there,. and I've been there many times, I can most certainly tell you that it is dirt cheap to go there and you party and are treated like a rock star!!

I love DR but I would totally recommed Punta Cana over Puerta Plata. (I've been to both and would go back in a second). You can get alot for your money. The beach was nicer in Punta Cana and so were the resorts. The resorts were older in Puerta Plata. I loved the Iberostar Bavaro!
I also second the cruise to Bermuda. I did that two summers ago.

Have you considered a cruise? FH and I went on a cruise to Bermude in June. It left from NY, so no airfare, it was a week long and we paid about $2,000 for the cruise and another $1,000 in spending money. But we went with a bunch of friends so we were up partying until all hours of the night so most of the 1k is in alcohol And Bermuda was so beautiful! I highly recommend it.

If you have your heart set on Hawaii you can actually cruise through Hawaii very reasonably on Royal Caribbean (though I'm not sure of the schedule year-end). FI and I got an outside cabin w/balcony for $1,200 each for an 11 day cruise. The cruise leaves from Vancouver (I found super-cheap flights), but then you have to fly home from Honolulu (only down-side). My girlfriend took a similar cruise for her HM last August and absolutely loved it. It's the best way to do Hawaii on a budget. Just something else to consider.

My FH and I went to Belize this March. It's under Mexico and just above Guatemala. Ambergris Caye is where they shot the first Temptation Island. It was very nice. Airfare is around $500 each and you could get one of the better hotel rooms for about $100 a night. The rates do go as low as $40 a night. I don't think dinner ever cost us more than $30 a night. It was a really neat, quiet and relaxing island. If your interested let me know and I'll give you more details and recommendations, I can also give you some good websites to find info on.

I would also recommend cruising. We did the bermuda cruise last year and absolutely loved it. I just booked a cruise for our honeymoon and I can't wait to go. We are paying about $1200 for the cruise (5 day) and airfare. We are paying next to nothing for the cruise but that is because I wrote a letter complaining about a few things after the last cruise and they sent me a gift certificate for $250 towards a future cruise and because we've been on cruises with them before, we got another $75 off per cabin.
