What are you doing in your ceremony, reception, programs to honor those who can't be there for your special day?
My FH parents are no longer alive, we both have grandparents that have passed away (he never knew his paternal grandparents either), I lost a cousin over 20 years ago, so we want to try and avoid naming names...
I was thinking of having a moment of silence during the ceremony to remember those that could not be there and also putting it on the program...

Re: Honoring those who passed away??
Between FH and I, we have A LOT of people who have passed away that were super close to us. We will most likely not be putting their names in a program, just because there are so many of them (we'll probably have a broad mention about those that are in our hearts and here in spirit). Additionally, quite a few of them died tragically, so we don't think it is the best time to bring them up specifically.
Personally, I am going to do a couple bouquet charms.

Re: Honoring those who passed away??
I am going to list them in the program. I have a lot of people to (grandparents, cousins, uncles) but they all have meant a lot to me and IMO if i am going to have a paragraph with one name what is the harm in adding a few more names. I am considering bouquet charms but I dont want anyone to get annoyed if i leave someone out...like I would like to put my maternal grandfather; but i would not want to put my paternal grandmother and think my dad would be annoyed. the program seems to be the easiest way

We are going to have a collage frame with pictures of our loved ones who passed and one of the opening on the frame will have the poem shown below.
We also have a floating memorial candle (same as our Unity Candle only shorter) that will be lit throughout the reception next to the frame. It's engraved with 'In Loving Memory of our Dearly Departed'
EDIT: Also in the back of the program with the Thank Yous, we are going to write something in honor of them as well.

i feel the same way. same thing here. we're probably just going to have something short written in the program and definitely a memorial candle, but no names specifically.
i wouldn't want to forget someone and then someone else is upset at my wedding. if it's just a blanket 'those we have lost' statement, then it's OK.

love this idea!!! but it brought tears to my eyes just reading it on the boards...i dont want people to tear up at the wedding thinking of some of the tragic deaths that have occurred.

Re: Honoring those who passed away??
that poem litteraly made me cry thank you for sharing. We are having our mass in our fathers' memories. I have memorial charm on my bouquet for my dad. We are doing these candles one for each with the flowers arrangement around it and now we are definitely including that poem on our poem or in a frame next to the candles
one of my junior BM (FH's cousin) wrote this poem last week... I totally just remembered about it and I think we should use it... what do you ladies think?
God saw you were getting tired And a cure was not meant to be So he put his arms around you And whispered come with me With tearful eyes we watched you As we saw you pass away Although we love you deeply We could not make you stay Your golden heart stopped beating Hard working hands at rest God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.

I love that poem. We are using it also, just have to decide about candles or photos.
