I had a horrible experience today at Davids Bridal, and I am just giving all fair warning if you know anyone who is getting BM dresses from there. First of all there has been problems from the beginning. They would not allow us to order the dresses until everyone was there in person and ready to pay in full. I have been in weddings before and I have never heard of making people pay in full at the first visit to the store. Then they wouldnt tell us when the dresses would be coming in, even a general idea, then we finally got them at the end of February. (this wedding I am in was planned really fast so its not like we had months to plan). When I made my appt last week for alterations they told me it would be no problem (the wedding is 3/22), because I needed minimal alterations, only about an inch on each side of the chest area, no hem or anything! At the most it would take 1 or 2 days to do the alterations. When I went in today, they measured me told me it would be $20, than they came out and said oh yeah its another $25 for last minute charges. Another BM got hers altered (heavy alterations) last week, and they didnt do that to her. They told me you have to have your first fitting at least a month before the wedding to not get the charge, and I was like hello the dresses arent even in a month yet! I mentioned that NOONE told me there was an extra charge, and I would have went elsewhere if I would have known. Than the manager came out and I mentioned that these dresses were NOT the same size that we ordered (everyones came in big), and another BM that I met in the store said that thier dresses all came in small. She told me that they make them big to accomadate the waistline. Maybe im crazy, but if you try on a 10 in the store, and you order a 10, shouldnt it be the same size? Than the woman had the nerve to tell me that the alteration was now $25 and not $20. So I was like take the pins out of the dress, I am leaving. I made an appt elsewhere, and they said it was no problem. Sorry so long, but I just dont want this to happen to anyone else.

Re: Horrible experience
I'm sorry that this happened to you...I went to David's bridal on sat for someone else and it was bad also...The attendant was only there for an ten min and was rushing her out of the dressing room, even had the nerve to say what was taking so long. then finally when the girl came out, she kept poking at her breast and stuffing it in her dress...We told her to stop and she said that if we didn't want her help then she will leave...We told her to 'get to stepping'!!!

David's Bridal seems to be a regular offender. This is not uncommon.

Re: Horrible experience
OMG! I am so sorry to hear that this happened. We were considering going to David Bridal's for my bridesmaids dresses but that may not happen now. Some of my girls are from out of state so I don't know if they will be happy about that. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you all for replying! I was starting to think maybe it was only me, but I am glad to hear that its not just me! How is that place still in business! I went to thier website so I can find a place to call or write a letter, and it says to contact the manager of the store. Oh yeah big help!

I wasn't impressed by the place either. I would not recommend going there on a Saturday or Sunday the place is just too crazy. Too many Brides and not enough assistants.

Re: Horrible experience
I got my wedding gown and bm dresses there and had nothing but problems with the bm dresses. But you should inquire if qny of the ladies do alterations out of there home. One lady did and helped my out by getting the fitting done in days for me.

Re: Horrible experience
I'm sorry you had a terrible experience at David's Bridal. I had my BMs get their dresses from there and we had the opposite experience.
First of all, I went to the David's Bridal in Carle Place and was basically ignored (we were there on a Thursday afternoon). I went to another David's Bridal in Queens and picked out several styles of dresses for my BMs to pick out. The BM with me paid for her dress there (I believe she paid in full) and I had the other BMs, who live out of state, go to their local David's Bridal to pick out their dresses from my list. David's Bridal said that they would order the each dress when each BM ordered and paid. Obviously we can't have all the BMs in person at the David's Bridal in Queens since they live so far away, and David's Bridal did not insist on it. We were told that the dresses would be here in 6-8 weeks. I found them to be very accomodating and helpful there.
It sounds like the David's Bridal that you visited knew you were in a time crunch and tried to take advantage of that. That is absolutely poor business practice on their part, but not all David's Bridal function like that, thank God! Good luck with the BM situation!

Re: Horrible experience
I'm glad I'm not the only one with horror stories from the Carle Place store. Long story, I posted it earlier in the week.
Here is the customer service number for David's corporate heardquarters: 1 800 823 2403. They were extremely helpful.

I hear terrible things about them all the time. I don't understand how they stay in business...treating people so badly.

Re: Horrible experience
Sorry you had the bad experience! But for anyone who is considering using David's, I def. recommend the Long Island City, Queens branch - they are much more organized & helpful. The store is well kept & good service. the Carle Place location is really bad!

I am sorry that you had that experience. I have read nothing but bad things about David's. Even though half my wedding party is out of state and it would be easier, I wouldn't use them. I went there once when I was in a wedding and that was enough to turn me off forever!

Re: Horrible experience
I second Maysie18's recommendation about the David's Bridal in Long Island City. I found them to be very helpful - the complete opposite of the one in Carle Place. They made my life a bit easier.
