Horrible experience today-please forgive my vent..
Today I took a personal day to go look and book a florist with FH. As most couples are ,we are on a budget.I also can't see spending a lot for flowers that are going to die while we are on our honeymoon.I would rather put our money into things that I personally find more important to me like the photographer,and the honeymoon,etc.We are having a beach themed wedding.I am making the centerpieces which are hurricane lamps w/ candles,with beach sand and shells.We are having a glass company silkscreen our names ,wedding date and sanddollars onto the hurricane lamps to make it personal.I want those to sit on fanned palm leaves with gerber daisy heads and sanddollars surrounding. I also only want handtied gerber daisy bo-ks for me and the 2 MOH and BM. FH wants a more traditional basic rose Boutinere for himself and the groomsmen.We want a small spiral shell attached to the boutineres to tie in the beach theme.(I have seen this done before and really liked it). We went today to Flowers by B****.I think he is a vendor on here so I dont want to break any rules,but I needed to vent because we were treated so horribly! The woman was ok who helped us,at first She started by asking about the centerpieces-which I know is the biggest floral money maker,and both me and FH both got a bad vibe when I explained that I was making centerpieces-and what I wanted to do with the palm leaves and gerbera.She then asked about my bo-k.I explained how I wanted the gerbera handtied-she didnt really seem to like my basic ideas .Once we got to the boutineres with the shell accent,she makes a face and says'well I don't know how that will look'..I said 'well I do b/c I have seen it done before at other weddings'..She goes to get the proposal and comes back a minute later.She says 'I am sorry but he doesn't feel comfortable using gerbers on the tables without a water source.'FH says it is only for a few hours...and that was it..she doesn't offer to quote a rate without that,nothing-she says'I am sorry' which I took to mean sorry but we won't work with you b/c your budget isnt big enough for a cheaper more difficult flower..as we were leaving she asks me if anyone else had quoted us and I said yes and not only that but I had seen gerbera heads used this way before without a problem..I walked out feeling horrible.I was also in shock and good thing because I probably would've told them off.Even if I had a million dollars to spend on flowers this would be what I wanted so to be treated like this is totally unnacceptable.Sorry so long but I am still so upset about that treatment and just wanted to vent

Hi,thanksfor the reply.We actually did.Wewent down the street and booked with Flower Michele today and John was so fantastic and made us feel like we were spending a million dollars.He couldn't do enough for us.He was the silver lining to the cloud of the day! At least the day ended on a high note

that's awful. i went to a florist and they refused to give me a quote..FH and I had to sit there with them for almost 15 minutes BEGGING them to just throw a number out there for us. I never told them my budget or anything, and they were trying to be nice with what they were doing, but it still made me feel like an idiot... as if my money wasn't good enough for them.

the only thing I can say is maybe they didn't truly 'get' your vision, in which case you shouldn't work with them. you made the right choice! FM is a GREAT vendor and you will be thrilled with their work!

sorry you had that experience......I used Flower Michelle, they were great. I also had a really horrible experience w/ a different florist when I was shopping around, not an LIW vendor though.......you'd think booking a florist would be the easiest of all the vendors, some of them make it more complicated then it needs to be!

I feel the same way as you do about spending a lot of money on flowers that are going to die, and I also looked at the gerber daisies. I was recommended to a florist by a friend, her name is Chin at the Three village florist shoppe in setauket. If you go in to talk to her she is great. I told her how I felt about spending a lot on flowers, she is letting me buy my own vases at a dollar store and bring them in to her (for the centerpieces) and she is hand tiying the boquets for me and my girls. She seemed very easy going- maybe you would want to go see her. I was impressed.

I am happy you found a florist as wonderful as Flower Michelle but I hate that you had such a terrible experience. No one should tell you your vision can't work. Anything is possible with a lil effort

Thank you so much ladies,for all of your help (hamptonsbride-that looks AWESOME,thanks for the search on the other boutinere too) and the reccommend of a florist (etrnalyyourz) and just the shoulder to 'cry' on to all! Watching and reading all about weddings it shows me that everyone ,no matter what their budget,has their own vision and shame on Flowers by B**** for treating me like that and not thinking outside the very basic small box I presented them ! I really did have the last laugh though b/c we plunked down a 20% cash deposit with John at Flower Michele.I do believe it all worked out for the best,but I think it irks me so much b/c I was a travel agent for 11 years and know that just because someone comes in to book an airline ticket (which we make no money on) doesn't mean they won't come back in to book the Ritz Carlton with it...that is the first rule of thumb for any good salesperson-don't assume.. Thanks again ladies for the support-you are the best !!

SOrry you went through that. But I know what you mean. When you tell vendors that you are DIYing certain things they are like 'WHAT'! Don't let it discourage you. Just DIY the centerpieces yourself. Try growersbox.com for real flowers or efavormart.com for silk flowers and just do your bouquets also. Good Luck
