Horrible thought...But so pertinent these days, unfortunately.
Does anyone personally know of any child (or adult for that matter) who was abducted?

NO thank God. But as a mother that is my worst fear!! That must be such a horrible thing to deal with and it's sad that you read so much of it in the paper.

yes my sister's friend. I was in 8th grade, she was in 6th grade, we both played the clarinet in band together. Her name was Jenny Odom, I don't think my sister ever fully recooped from it. She was taken when she got off the school bus, and found days later, naked and tied up in a ditch. Beaten to death. I feel sick to my stomach typing this...it was a real horror.

A teacher at the school i was student teaching at had a girl that was abducted as a student (when she was in 5th grade - the girl was in 7th grade when she was abducted)
It was scary that it was so close to home though. She was taken by a guy she met on the internet, and was found safe about a week later though.
Fortunatly, that's as close as i've gotten to that kind of situation.

thanks, it really is such a dark place in my sister's mind. We weren't even Jenny's family, but in high school, my sister was very depressed, and once she went to the movies with me and my friends...a guy drove up to talk to us and my sister went into hysterics telling me to run.

another memory that makes my stomach turn:
I use to babysit for a family, well off, great house in a country neighborhood. They had 2 little boys(age 5 and 3). They had french doors leading to their screened in porch. One night they were robbed. They were all asleep in their beds, they had a security system, but I guess not a very good one because it was cut through. They woke up the next morning to find the TV gone from their room, as well as their alarm clock from the side of their bed. They slept through it all. They ran into one of the boy's rooms, and his bedside lamp was taken as well as his piggy bank. The other little boy who was 5 had nothing taken from his room. He later told that the man told him to go back to bed.
They were so disturbed that intruders were in their little boy's rooms that they packed up and moved out within the week.

when my cousin's wife was a child she was abducted twice (oddly enough it happens to be a coincidence). Thankfully she was not harmed either time!

yes two. My cousin when she was younger, her father stole her from her house ( parents divorced) and took her to Alabama, ( just random, he knew no-one there) and rented a house, it took then 2 weeks to find her( he told his mother where he was) and he grabbed her and ran when the police showed up, she was actually rescued by a helicopter because they were walking ( running away) for like 10 hours . She didnt talk after that for almost a year. She was 4 at the time.
and about 10 years ago my Aunts godson was on a HS field trip upstate and went missing. The still dont know what happened to him. They found his body 18 months later in a river nearby.

Re: Horrible thought...But so pertinent these days, unfortunately.
When my mom was my age, living in NYC, someone tried to abduct her while she was walking down the street. He pulled up in his car, got out and started pushing her into his car. She started screaming and fighting against him, so eventually he got back in his car and drove away.
It's weird... DH and I were just talking about this yesterday. I remembered that when I was about 6 years old, I was playing outside on the front lawn and some car kept driving by very slowly. Then, he stopped and called out to me to come over for something (I think he wanted to give me candy or something). I got so scared and ran back into the house and told my mom who called the police.
