One important item I DIDN'T bring, but should have was a pair of shower shoes (flip flops or something similar.) The bathrooms in the hospital were, in my opinon, a little less than sanitary!

I second the flip flops!! I also brought a poufy sponge to use instead of a washcloth. I would pack a nice pair of pjs to wear when visitors come and a few pairs of underwear that you don't mind throwing away because you WILL get blood on them!

also, I don't know what hospital you are going to but I brought my baby book with me and the nurse stamped Emily's footprint right into the book for me along with on the certificate they give you..

My husband did this....He asked the nurse to stamp her footprint on his arm - kind of like a temporary tattoo :) and he proudly showed it off to everyone

TOWELS! The hospital towels are small and scratchy.

Definitely bring your own pillow!! I don't know what I would have done without it. The flip flops also. I love the idea about the shower pouf - next time I'm bringing one of those!!

Great suggestions, I'm adding them to my list. What about Sanitary pads? Or do you just use what the nurse gives you? Did any of you pack extra clothes for the baby besides the 'coming home outfit'?

I printed off myself a checklist of things that were recommended...but it is at home with the website. If you want the address, let me know.

I am sure that the hospital will provide the sanitary pads. They have the really giant ones (and you will definitely need the giant ones!) My cousin gave me one word of advice from her experience: Bring as many pads home from the hospital as you can because if you have to send your husband out to get them, he will inevitably bring home the wrong thing. She told me that her husband brought her home panty liners!!!

I would pack 2 outfits for the baby - just in case. I also brought a soft blanket for her to have in the hospital nursery. It was much nicer to have her swaddled in her own soft blanket.

Thanks Nancy, but I have a couple checklists for the Hospital. I am curious on what the mommies brought that are never mentioned on those lists. Like the flip flops, towels and anything else that would be benificial. I would love to see the list to compare if you don't mind.

TJW- LOL! I've heard about the stocking up on pads...

Empty shopping bags -- if you have visitors, some will bring you gifts. I was in for 4 days and received lots of wonderful gifts from family and friends. However, my poor husband had such a hard time trying to lug gift boxes and flowers out the night before discharge.

All of these were great - Definitly a must bring!! Also about the footprints my FH made sure he was wearing a plain white Tee-shirt under his clothes and had them stamp both feet on his chest.. now we have the shirt he was wearing with Anthony's first foot prints on it!! I also loved the idea of puttin it in the book.. I was so tired though I dont think I would have thought of it!!

TAKE AS MANY AS YOU CAN FROM THE HOSPITAL!!!!!!!!! TAKE EVERYTHING THAT'S NOT NAILED DOWN -- from diapers to pads to bottles!!!! Make your DH go home with a bag filled each night when he leaves!!!

Ditto the pillow and slippers!! Also the towel, which I wish somebody had told me about!!!

Here is the link

overnight bag

I was actually going to add Calling Card because you can't use a cell phone in the hospital anyways.

My sister also recommended a heating pad for me too (it is on the list) but it was one thing that she wished she had during her labor.
