Re: hot yoga
FSIL and I took Hot Yoga classes a few months ago and it was great! I wish it wasn't so damn expensive because I really liked it. Definitely something a beginner can do. The will usually put you close to the door so that way when they open it during the class to let some fresh air in you can getting the full blast of it. Also, don't feel that you have to do every pose. It's understandable to take a break every now and then. It really is a great workout and you feel so good after the class is over (even if you feel like you are going to die during it LOL).

Re: hot yoga
The first time I did any type of yoga was hot yoga and I was hooked. Its ok for a beginning but treat it like any beginner would and don't try to do too much. If you get worn out or dizzy from the heat just lie down. Make sure you drink a ton of water before you go.

Re: hot yoga
i loved hot yoga when i did it!! i had never taken any type of yoga before i did hot yoga... make sure you have a beginner/intermediate class so they can help you with poses if you need....
my biggest advice is don't eat before going or you will get nauseous... someone told me that and i didn't believe them and had breakfast before going to an 8:30am class and i thought i was gonna puke... after that i had a half of banana and was fine.. the first class is the hardest to get used to .. gets easier after that.... bring lots of water

Re: hot yoga
I took Bikram (hot) yoga for about 6 months a few years ago. I think it is great but super expensive. I have a few points and misconceptions to share from my experiences with studying and practicing Bikram. After 6 months and 900.00 later!
- Bikram is NOT meant for weight loss. The main point of it is for mental health, discipline and flexibility. (going max days a week will help tone your body)
- True Bikram yoga is in a room over 100 degrees and can make you extremely nauseated (literally)
- Each class is exactly the same. 1.5 hours and 26 poses. The point of this is to constantly stretch and balance into each pose and eventually be able to stretch your body to the maximum. Each session you stretch more and more. But every class is EXACTLY the same. There is no beginner, medium etc.. It is not true Bikram if they are telling you they have different 'levels'
- You should go at least 4-5 TIMES A WEEK to benefit from it. If you only go once a week you are literally starting from scratch each week. The point is to increase your flexibility. If you wait a week span you will never achieve the maximum stretch 'pose' So basically you are wasting your time and money by going only 1-2 times a week.
- Beware of these random 'hot yoga' studios popping up. Many are only loosely based on Bikram and are cashing in on the trend. If you want a true Bikram studio look on bikramyoga.com and research Bikram Choudhury (the man who invented it).
-The point of the heat is so your muscles don't get injured, not because you 'sweat out weight' (I have heard people say that a million times lol!)
-It is VERY expensive lol Also you really need to be dedicated to it. Like I said you will not benefit by going minimum days. The studios won't tell you any of this of course. They don't want to lose a potential high paying customer, so alot of people spend hundreds expecting all these great results yet are only going 1-2 times a week. It doesn't work like that.
Anyway.. that was long! Hope i helped. I hate seeing people waste money. It does have alot of great benefits, but like I said you need the TIME and MONEY. If I had more time and money I would have probably stayed with it. It's all about dedication otherwise you are wasting your cash. Best of luck!

Re: hot yoga
I think it's great! I felt good even going only a few times a week. It really helped the tendinitis in my shoulder. Other types of yoga would aggravate it, but this made it better. I haven't been going in a while, I broke my toe the last time I went Not a normal thing to happen during the class, I just somehow am an idiot. Will be going back later this week!

Re: hot yoga
i did hot yoga for awhile, without ever doing any yoga ever
I loooved it! you will defnitely lose weight if you do it regularly
it is definitely hard but not impossible. the instructor I had was super helpful and would go around and modify for everyones skill level.
it is realllllly hot but not as hot or unbearable as you think it is...just bring like 3 big bottles of water and wear as little as possible, sports bra and tiny shorts
be prepared to be soaking wet in sweat.
the heat supposedly loosens your muscles and makes it easier to perform the moves.

if you work in the city, check out donation based classes. These cost about $8 a class.

I agree with all of these points. I love all forms of yoga (hence my screen name) and have been practicing various disciplines for years. I am a fan of Bikram too, but just like other forms of yoga, it is not for weight loss, no matter what the studio tells you. However, if you go at least 3 -4 times per week consistently, you will lose inches and tone up, but more importantly, you will feel relaxed, calm, and empowered. If you are looking for weight loss too, you would need to inorporate some cardio into your excercise regime. You should definitely try it out. Most studios offer discounted beginners prices. Also, Bikram is an excellent choice for the novice because the heat promotes flexibility. good luck

Re: hot yoga
I have done a few different types of yoga and can safely say that bikram is NOT for me. I felt like I was going to throw up/pass out and when I got up to leave the room to get some air, the instructor didn't want me to leave. Never again
