Hotel and shuttle issue...what would you do?

Hotel and shuttle issue...what would you do?

I need some advice, if you don't mind! Basically, I wonder what you would do in this situation.

Okay, I have lots of out of towners. The most important ones being my FILs. They're coming from the south and they're not exactly loaded with $$. I want to give them an affordable option, and I want the same for the other guests who are coming from far and wide.

The issue is- of course- the shuttle. I really want to provide this for my guests but it is just sooooo expensive. Right now, I could book the Best Western in Massapequa for a block - but they don't have a free shuttle. So of course, I gotta pay for it myself. But CLM works with the Holiday Inn in Hauppauge and they have a free shuttle.

My issue is, Hauppauge isn't exactly around the corner from Massapequa, where the ceremony is. That's about a half hour ride. They would obviously be driving to and from the hotel and church...but at least they'd have a ride to the reception.

Should I just shell out the dough for a shuttle and have people stay closer at the Best Western? Or have them stay in Hauppauge - is a half hour really not that big a deal? I just feel bad for these people who've never seen LI in their lives!

Thanks for listening...I realize I wrote a novel!!!

check the area hotels. We are using the wingate hotel and they offer a shuttle service to the rh and church. Wingate is located on stewart ave.

I would go with the Holiday Inn in Hauppauge. I really don't think a 1/2 hr ride is a big deal so i don't think your guests will either.

i'm not too familiar with long island. i had to offer/pay for a shuttle for my guests. i would suggest that you do as the previous poster stated: look into all the local hotels and see what they have to offer.

i went with a hotel that is about 5 miles from the wedding.

now, i'm going to give you my 'opinion'... if i were someone who wasn't familiar with the area, i'd be VERY grateful if the bride took the time to find a place that was close to the wedding, ie. short ride.

just ask how far they travel before making your decision...some of the hotels we checked out for the OOT guests only provided a shuttle that would travel a few miles.

Oh this hotel works with CLM...bizarre that one so far away does....wish they were involved with the Best Western- it's alot closer to both!

Thanks!!

I know that a half hour to us might not seem so bad...I but I feel even worse knowing his parents are out in Hauppauge for the several days they're with us....makes me feel bad.

is the cost something that could 'break the bank?'

the reason i ask is that you've mentioned fh's parents and how bad you feel about their transportation. have you thought of separate transportation for his parents? or i would suggest that you go with your 'heart' on this one... you'll never regret making your fil's comfortable.

just my 2 cents

I would go with the Holiday Inn. I have a lot of friends from college who live all over the place and I have never had a problem driving from the church to the hotel, etc. no matter how far it is. The shuttle is a great option. And depending on what time your church is and when your guests are coming in, people may just go to the church first, then go to the hotel and check in.

I just got married yesterday and I used a bus from Elite Transport. They were awesome! We used the Hyatt in Hauppauge and our church was St. Kilian's in Farmingdale and then to Lands End and back to the Hyatt. I strongly advise a shuttle. We had 25 rooms booked at the hotel and everyone loved the shuttle.

I know it is an added expense - but if you could do the hotel that is closer - you should.

What about using another area hotel? I'm from Massapequa and there are tons that are closer than Happauge. Why don't you try the Holiday Inn - Plainview? Try tripadvisor.com for other options for hotels.Trip Advisor

a lot of my family lives in Jersey, and everytime we go t oa wedding we take a shuttle, the last time we went to a wedding the ride was around 45 minutes, and belive me it was long.....If it isnt to much of an expense I would go with the closer hotel....JMHO

hey there! i know there is a courtyard marriot opening soon on rte. 110 in farmingdale (near republic airport). that is pretty close to your RH and church. i don't know exactly when they are opening, but I'm sure it will be open by the end of the year.

Thanks Debbie!...yep I heard about that hotel...I hope it opens soon...maybe that would work out. Until then I'm gonna check out the Huntington Hilton since their shuttle doesn't completely break the bank. I just hope I can get a good nightly rate from them!

Thanks everyone!!

I would stay closer to the reception and provide the shuttle esp if you have alot of oot guests. You could also then have them shuttled from the htoel to the church and you won't have to worry about people getting lost.

The way i thought of it - people are spending alot of money traveling to the wedding at least we can do is make it easier for them to get around.

Check out Alert buses they were very reasonable for 12 hours.

Good Luck
