hotel block

How does the hotel block work?
I know you need 10 rooms to get the discounted group rate, but if you dont have 10 rooms booked by the time the wedding comes around, would we incur the charged for the unoccupied rooms?

and how far in advance do hotels let you do a room block?

thanks!

Mine we are not responsible for unbooked rooms.

I'd book ASAP, many of them book up a year in advance! I booked mine 14 months in advance and 2 months later the entire hotel was booked up...

Not all hotels require you to book a certain number of rooms for the discount. Also all rooms have to booked 30 days before your wedding. If not the rooms will go back into the hotel available rooms. Somehotels also require a financial obligation from you if you book over 15 rooms. You really have to call and speak with the sales dept. Since my wedding is so far off some hotels wouldnt allow me to block so soon but there were a few that would. I actually went with LaQuinta Inn. Trying to get 2009 pricing on everything

Same here, they hold the rooms until a month before and then release them, at no charge. I reserved them last July. I had to get two because we have a lot of people staying. One hotel gave us 25 to start (has since up'ed it to 32 and the other 20).

We are location twins, did you book at Holiday Inn Express East End?

I blocked at the Four Points Sheraton in Plainview.

There, you can block up to 15 rooms each night without any guarantees or penalties. Anything over that, you need to guarantee.

I did my block in May, so just over a year before the wedding.

Hilton Garden Inn, the one in Westbury which would be a great choice for you and Im not sure but maybe its the one associated with your RH...

this is their policy, you have to block atleast 10 rooms per night for your guests to get the discounted rate. You have NO financial responsibility whatsoever, however, they are released 30 days prior to your wedding date if they havent been booked up. I thought this was fair considering they would obviously be losing money on those rooms if they never got booked. I'm sure if you wanted to hold them after that date, you would have to pay.

I just signed the paper yesterday and sent it back to block at this hotel. Just have to clearly tell your guests that they must book 1 month prior at the very least.
