hotel block

this is probably a stupid question, but..

is it necessary to get a hotel block? if so, how exactly does it work? what happens if you don't use all of the rooms you reserved?

Re: hotel block

its the only thing ive found that is free in the wedding process-- its simple, i did it, if guests get rooms, they get rooms, if they dont, thats okay too-- for me it was more of a courtesy to give them the option

It's just a courtesy, you can get a discounted rate for them.

you don't have to, but it is a nice convenience for OOT guests. They will give you the block for the number of rooms you want and we have up to a month before to get all 10 blocked if not then they just release them to the public.

most hotels you don't pay a thing for a hotel block so it's better to have one available for those of your guests who may what to stay at the hotel.

Basically you'll call up the hotel, say that you'd like to block some rooms for your wedding and they will give you a rate and a group code which you're guests will need to give them when booking to receive the discounted rate. Your guests will have up until a certain date to book their hotel room before the rooms become unavailable under the block and are released back into inventory. You won't be charged anything for these unused rooms but your guests won't be able to get a discount at that point.

Some hotels even offer a deal when a certain amount of rooms are blocked and booked. Our hotel for example, the Courtyard Marriot in Farmingdale, offers free shuttle service to and from the RH for the guests when 10 rooms are booked. When 15 rooms are booked, FH and I will get a room for free for the night. Hotels will also offer a discounted rate on Honeymoon Suites for the night.

HTH!
