When are you supposed to do this?? How many rooms are you supposed to block off? Are you supposed to go look at the hotel and rooms? Iv heard of hotels giving a free shuttle and a free night for the bride and groom, is this true for any of you?

Re: Hotel Block
I did it pretty early. there are only a few hotels out where I'm getting married, so wanted to make sure I got my block. I think you can do it any time, but if you have a lot of OOT ppl, I would do it sooner rather than later...
Also, my hotel offers the free shuttle service after we book 15 rooms... and they didn't give us a suite for free, unfortunately. HTH!

Re: Hotel Block
Half of our guest list is OOT so we booked the maximum rooms they would give us at the time, which was 25 per night. Then if we need to we can add more as the block fills up. They also told us that if we fill the block, our suite will be free. Our hotel did not offer a shuttle or have a bar, but was about $30 less than the one that did and we wanted to keep it cheap since these people would be traveling to see us. HTH!
ETA I did mine back in August while I was home, but I also live OOS so I'm not the norm

Re: Hotel Block
I booked my hotel block right away, and we already have quite a few rooms blocked off. Out hotel does not offer free shuttles. In fact, none of the hotels I visited did. They also did not give the bride and groom a free suite, but we had a few issues with them in the beginning and now my suite is comped. I would say get your hotel block now.

Re: Hotel Block
They let us do it a year before the wedding and yes some hotels do give you some free stuff. They will tell you at the hotel how many rooms you must block inorder to get some free $hit. Good luck!

Re: Hotel Block
I did mine before I sent out my save the dates in like may or june. I have a lot of OOT guests coming but I just blocked 10 per night to start. I thought people would have booked rooms when I sent the save the dates out but none have yet so hopefully ill have enough rooms and still be able to open more of a block. Oh and the bridal suite is not comp at my hotel and its pretty much reg price at $179 per night.

Re: Hotel Block
I've been wondering too! I have to figure out how many OOT people are actually going to stay at a hotel. Maybe I should get on that before the end of the year!
Lately, I've been procrastinating! I also have to book Limo before the end of the year! It is just so hard to decide when you don't have the logistics all figure out yet!

You should probably block off at least 20 - 25..

I'm a SMCC bride too Yea!
I had the same question - though I am only expecting a few OOT guests, with my luck more than expected will say yes.
I've heard great things about La Quinta.

Agreed they don't have free shuttles but we got the conference room free for a meet and greet the day before the wedding. The suites there are huge!!!!!!

I have no idea!!!! I started looking the other day and was trying to find a close hotel. I ended up coming across one in Floral Park. Once I read the review about beg bugs back in June, I was like 'EEKK no thank you!'
I'm definitely going to look into the Hampton Inn. Also, people at work told me to try the Marriott in Uniondale.

Re: Hotel Block
Hey! I was a SMCC bride! We didnt have many OOT guests, and were not sure how many friends from the city would want to stay over, so we did the minimum reservation of 10 rooms @ La Quinta. I wound up booking this block about 4 months prior. We wound up only using 4 of the rooms, and it was fine, they didnt make us pay for the extra rooms or anything.
We ourselves stayed in a junior suite and i cannot say enough nice things about this hotel. Its an excellent price, and the rooms were great - clean, pretty etc. They even sent up complimentary champagne & candies for us. Everyone that stayed had a great experience. I highly recommend!

Re: Hotel Block
some hotels limit the number of rooms you can block off. i know the hotel i've blocked only has 40 rooms so you can only do a block for a max of 20 rooms. hth
i did it about 13 months in advance.

Re: Hotel Block
I'm signing off on the contract tonight. Many of the hotels I visited did not offer shuttle service either. I blocked off enough rooms based on the number of people i knew would and might take a room. If a certain amount of rooms are blocked I get the suite at the room block rate.
