I am trying to get a hotel block for wedding guests. How did you ladies go about doing this? Did you call a couple of hotels for pricing or just used information from their website. Also, do guests receive a discount with the room block? Thanks in advance!

Re: Hotel Block
I called a few that were closest to the RH.
Then I chose one based on price, location, and reviews on TripAdvisor

Re: Hotel Block
My reception hall recommended one and they were honestly the cheapest one in the area. We contacted group sales at that hotel and they gave us the discounted price. As of now we have 20 rooms blocked. Whatever rooms are not booked by June 29, 2011 (one month before the wedding), will be released. We didn't have to leave a deposit or anything.

Re: Hotel Block
I called a few within the reception site looking at the reviews. You typically get a discounted rate putting a block of rooms on hold, just make sure to ask what the percentage is that you have to guarantee for what you reserve.

I called a few places close to the RH. I also went there. And yes they give discounts for the room block. don't go based on the website. you can do much better!

We physically went into the hotels we were interested in and sat down with a sales associate.

This. I went to a few that were in the area and was not impressed at all - didn't even bother talking to anyone b/c I literally walked in and then walked out of some! So make sure you go and vist the hotel and see the rooms - very important.
