When blocking a hotel - should you block MORE rooms than you'll need? What happens if you book 10 rooms and more guests end up needing rooms - will they honor the same rate?

Re: Hotel Block Question
hmmm...u're gonna have to talk to the hotel for this one. Ours would let us block 30max to start. Then once those were booked, they'd release 10more & so on. We told our guests to book asap('cause they could cancel at anytime w/out losing money)...all the rooms promised were released and everything was great!

Re: Hotel Block Question
...i would just block the max that they'll allow so u dont have to worry. the hotel doesn't care if they dont get booked because they'll have a 'book by' date...and if the rooms aren't booked by then they release them to the public anyway..hope this helped!

Re: Hotel Block Question
Same here, we held XX amount of rooms, as we got more people we added in larger chunks but were warned they could run out. I'd book more than you need, they will release about a month before the date. I also had one of the 3 hotels ask me specifically to pick a number of smoking rooms, otherwise they held all non-smoking. Also, mine have been extra helpful adding more rooms for people who call directly after teh block closed and honoring the rate.

Re: Hotel Block Question
We didn't get charged anything for the unblocked rooms, but check with the hotel. They all have different policies. The norm seems to be that you can block only a certain amount at a time (10 or 15) and when they book, they will add more rooms to your block if they are available. 30 days before the wedding, all remaining rooms in the block are released. The hotel can book those rooms to anyone in those 30 days.

Perfectly stated.
Make sure though you request a periodic report of your room block because sometimes the hotel doesn't tell you when your block is full like they say they will (we only blocked a small amount of rooms for the night before the wedding and that block filled up and they never told me).
