I negotiated my potential hotel block down to $119/night plus tax. I would like to go ahead and block off the rooms but I just wanted to check in with you girls first. Do you think this is a good rate???

That's a really good rate. I saw that you are getting married at OFC too. Where did you get the block for? We booked at Danfords in June and it was a lot more than that!

Danfords was a little too high for us. This hotel is only 20 mins from OFC and it's so beautiful. We're going to arrange for a shuttle to bring our hotel guests to/from reception. Sending FM.

Definitely a good rate. I booked a few rooms at the Three Village Inn where I'm getting married and they're $189 for Saturday and $169 for Sunday. But we don't have many OOT guests that don't have other sleeping arrangements (i.e. family in the area, friends)

Ok. I am totally clueless. How does the room block work? Do the bride and groom pay for the room block or do the guests pay themselves? I am so confused as to whether or not I should be doing this now, because I don't want everyone bunking at my house.
Edited for spelling

How it works is you block off a certain number of rooms at a hotel depending on how many guests you are expecting to stay at a hotel. The blocked rate is usually discounted from the regular hotel rates. Then you provide your guests with the hotel information (usually with the invitation) and they book their own rooms if they want to stay at the hotel (they pay for themselves). Usually about a month before your wedding the hotel will release whatever rooms were not booked by your guests to the general public. You don't have to pay anything, however, some hotels require that a percentage of your block is booked. You don't necessarily have to do this now, but if you are having OOT guests then it's a good idea to do at some point if they don't have other arrangements (with family/friends). I'm doing this early because I want to get Hotel Information postcards that I will send with my STDs in May.
