has anyone blocked hotel rooms yet?? FH and i called hotels recommended in our RH vendor list to compare prices. they all seem to be ridiculously pricey. i understand it's the summer season, but a lot of my guest are coming from Californian and Nevada, with the plane ticket being at least 275 and the hotel at 170 a night times two i cant have them dish out that much money for just the weekend. we're thinking of just booking a bunch of cheaper hotel rooms in between the FH's parents house and the RH. with the after party being at the FH's parents house i think it would be better that way. i dont think we need a fancy place with all sorts of amenities, just a simple room to spend the night would suffice.. but the hotels in our vendor list are soo pretty.. anyone having the same problems??
Im sure yours are pricey because its the summer....
But from what I gather, its not too early to start since its a year out.

Sure! FM me if you need any info/help. My hotel blocking was oddly my favorite part of the planning process!

Also check online price quotes for rooms. Sometimes they are lower then what the hotel will quote you directly and then you can negotiate. Thats what happened for us.

Re: hotel blocking
I just got in touch with the Long Island Visitors Bureau. The women that I spoke to was really helpful and she's faxing out my request to all of their member hotels. I haven't gotten quotes backs yet, but I'm hoping that the process won't be too painful.

silly question but.. did you all went to the hotel and checked them out? because we just passed by them and peeked through. we dont know if we have to make an appt to see someone to check out the rooms or talk about prices.

You can definitely do the legwork over the phone. We went to our hotel because I wanted to see how big the suites were for us gals getting ready there. I didnt meet with a sales person there, the front desk guy just gave us a key. Ive been talking with the sales person via phone and email.
its really simple!

Re: hotel blocking
For September I got the Radisson in Holtsville for $129, and the Hampton Inn across the highway in Farmingville was $149. I think the rates are the same in June. Those were the two cheapest. Most others I called were $149-$189.
