How many rooms do you need to get a better rate? I wasn't going to bother getting rooms, as we're having such a small wedding and few OOT guests who aren't staying with friends or family. But now I've just heard that some of my NJ and Staten Island friends are thinking of getting a hotel room for the night before, instead of having to drive to Long Island and get there by 11am. I might only need five rooms, would they laugh at me? And what's a good hotel for Western Suffolk? I was thinking the Hampton Inn in Commack. They've got to be fairly reasonable, right? Anything closer to Timber Point? Hmmm...there's that Holiday Inn by MacArthur airport. Anyone stay there, is it nasty?

Re: Hotel blocking
It's usually a minimum of 5 rooms in a block. Danford's blocked 5 for us to start.

Re: Hotel blocking
I would call around some times you can get the good rate regardless. But if you book 10 rooms thats when you get the discounted Bridal suite or free room/free shuttle, etc.
Also try Wingate in Commack...it's new.

Re: Hotel blocking
i've found that there are some good hotels (clean, reasonably priced, etc) that will let you block 10 and not penalize you if less than that many get blocked. they give you a cutoff date (usually 30 days before the wedding) that everyone has to book by, and after that they just release the rooms. try that - maybe if you need 10 to get the rate but only book 5, they'll still give it to you.

Re: Hotel blocking
Actually most of the hotels requrie you to book 10 rooms or morefor special rate but if your guest don't book 1 month before the wedding, they release the rooms for other people. If you don't have 10 rooms you will stay get the rate, and you are not responible for any financial obligation.

This is how ours worked and we blocked rooms at 3 hotels and all were 10 in order to get a discounted rate

That's where we blocked rooms too. Very nice and good rates. I'm not sure if there was a minimum number of rooms we had to guarantee - my dad took care of that. But you're not responsible for any rooms not booked - they just release them a month before - so you could just block more rooms than you think you'll need.

I just blocked rooms at the Wingate-$114 per night inc. b-fast. I got the bridal suite at a discounted rate ($189) just for booking them. If I book 20 rooms I get it for free. But I think the minimum is 10.

My guests are staying at the NEW LaQuinta Inn in Bohemia, near the Islip airport. My mom & I stayed there (we live in FL) and it was nice, super clean. I'm spening my wedding night at the Courtside Marriott. Also near the airport. HTH

Re: Hotel blocking
Anyone have info on the Garden City Hotel? FH and I are staying there on our wedding night and I think that some other people may want to stay there as well. Do they require a deposit or a minimum to be reserved? Is it a good discount?

Re: Hotel blocking
I did a little research, and it looks like the Hllton Garden Inn, the one that you guys suggested, has great reviews on TripAdvisor, and is only $80 a night on Expedia for the relevant days. Who needs hotel blocking when it's $80 a night? Thanks for the suggestion, guys! They're not sure they're going to do it, but I think that's cheaper than they were hoping, so it looks likely.

I second the Hilton Garden Inn at MacArthur Airport. We are using them for our hotel block. The workers are very helpful.
