Hotel Blocks?

Hotel Blocks?

Few questions -

How far in advance should you block rooms?

How many rooms did you block?

Do they charge you for blocking rooms?

Who do you contact at the hotels to arrange?

TIA

We blocked 15-20 rooms...getting married in November and blocked them in May... You just have to speak to reservations.. my FIL's took care of it and they had to sign a contract. No money was due at signing and they're not responsible to pay at all....

We just blocked our rooms last week, and I'm getting married the day after you. We are a bit early though, but because of that were able to get better rates.

There was no charge for the block, but we do have to guarentee 60%. We blocked 20 rooms, but might add more later if need be. We also got a free bridal suite.

We called all the hotels' ahead of time - usually just the main number, and then were connected to the special events manager.

My suggstion is to see the hotel in person if you can - so you can get a sense of the rooms and common spaces. The place we booked just redid a ton of rooms which weren't updated on the site.

The policy depends on the hotel - each one is different. I agree - call several hotels and make appointments to see the rooms and speak with the sales manager.

We blocked our rooms last November for this coming November. We were not required to pay for any unused rooms. The rooms are released to the general public one month in advance.

About a year in advance. We booked two hotels. One of them had no guarantee, the other we had to guarantee 50%. I was also able to negotiate with some of the hotels. Def go look at them first though!!

Re: Hotel Blocks?

I just did my hotel block last week and my wedding is in December 2009. The hotel I booked releases the room a month before your event if they were not booked. I blocked 10 rooms and if all 10 don't get booked I am not at any financial obligation for them.

Some hotels I called if I didn't book 7% of the rooms the rate for the rooms that were booked went up.

Definitely call around and ask their policy,

Re: Hotel Blocks?

We had blocked the minimum(10) rooms at the Courtyard Marriott in Farmingdale - the nice thing about that is once 10 room were reserved our room for the night was free. They had continental breakfast & provided free shuttle service to & from our venue. Plus we had reserved/blocked room back in late Jan early Feb for Aug wedding - b/c of the bad economy the rate actually dropped another $10 a night 2 weeks b4 the wedding & hotel adjusted everyone's rate who was already reserved...was a nice surprise for our guests when they checked out. They quoted us $159 a night so guests ended up paying $149.
