Shouldn't hotel block rates be cheaper than booking rooms individually?
We received hotel quotes from Hotel Giraffe in Gramercy for $250/night but the rates for our wedding weekend are currentlly $225/night...does this make sense?
Thanks!

Re: Hotel Blocks
I had that too!
However, mine came with a shuttle to and from the rehearsal dinner, to and from the wedding, and a huge breakfast, as well as a party room in the lower level!
See what else it comes with...

Re: Hotel Blocks
Yes the block rate *should* be cheaper than a standard booking rate.

Okay, good thanks guys! We are going to negotiate.
They are definitely NOT throwing in anything extra!

Yes, it does make sense. When I got my room rates at $145 a night my friend went that weekend and the rate wasn't available and booked for $130, but as the date approached the rates were at $190 and above. Rates will go up as the dates come closer, especially for summer months, so your room rate locks you in. Most guests will not book until a month or two before and will save a ton.

It should be cheaper. For our room block ppl paid $159 or $169.....and DHs brother booked later and paid $209 plus tax.

Yes, the rates change all the time, esp. in the city - depends on local events. At Giraffe during Fashion Week in Sept. their room rates went to $599 a night and on some nights they were full to capacity. I would inform guests about your blocked rate and also to check on Hotels.com before reserving. Many times the rates on the travel sites are cheaper.
