Hotel Blocks for OOT Guests

Where are you blocking rooms? What is your rate?

Do you think I should block rooms in Manhattan so my OOT guests can enjoy the city even though my wedding will be in Westchester?

I blocked them in the hotel next door and got a couple of bucks off the internet discount rate.

I would block them near the reception . If people prefer a Manhattan hotel thats something they should do themselves. Just a thought.

I agree. You are better off blocking rooms close. First, if you block them in the city, they'll have to leave earlier to get to your wedding and since you have a night wedding, they probably will want to be close to the reception afterwards. If you aren't providing transportation for them as well, then they'd ahve to worry about parking and everything in the city.

ETA: A few of my OOT guests are spending a couple of days in the city before or after the wedding.

i blocked rooms less than 10 minutes away from the wedding. while most will be flying into JFK or Laguardia...i figured it made sense to have the hotels closer to the reception

if you have the wedding in westchester--the guests have to get BACK to their hotels in NYC, and late at night after many drinks--can be kind of a hassle. i would highly recommend getting a hotel near the reception for your OOT guests, and perhaps close to some public transport that might get them to NYC.

How much does it cose to block off rooms?

I don't think you have to pay anything. You just reserve a set number of rooms. Your guests reserve at the rate, then the ones that weren't taken go back on the market.

There isn't a cost to block usually but, the requirement on filling the rooms varies from hotel to hotel (some release, some hold you responsible if you don't meet your number). It's best to call the hotels and ask.

i blocked rooms at 4 hotels (for variety) and my rates ranged from $99 to $126. it didn't cost me anything... and i don't have to meet any minimums for the guests to be guaranteed the rate!

i blocked rooms at a hotel close to the reception hall and at a hotel close to our apartment. the guests can choose whichever they like. it didn't cost me anything to block rooms.
