Hotel Blocks Question

Hotel Blocks Question

I just really realized that I may need to do a small hotel block for my wedding...

How exactly does it work? Do the guests pay for the rooms themselves and blocking just holds the rooms for them? Is there a deposit for it? What's the average number of rooms people block?? Any other info would be helpful...

TIA!

Re: Hotel Blocks Question

Well I'm doing this in Baltimore, but it's a Hilton so it may be the same. I can hold 10 rooms for free, after that I have to have 80 % of the rooms I hold blocked, or I pay 50.00 a room. I'm holding 20 rooms for the night of the wedding, and 10 for the rehearsal dinner night. We can add as needed, but I'm not going to do that until all these are booked and I hear from people we need more. Oh, and we have about 40 % of our guest list as oot.

Every hotel has their own setup, how many rooms they will hold, if you have to guarantee a certain number of rooms (which means pay for them if they are not booked), etc. depends on the hotel. You need to call the hotel and get their policies.

Guests pay for their own room, but your block holds the room at a preferred rate for your guests usually until 30 days before the wedding.

Re: Hotel Blocks Question

Our hotel allowed us to block a maximum of 15 rooms at one time. We have no financial responsibility, and the minimum is 10 rooms booked to get the 'special rate'. Guests are responsible for booking and paying for their rooms and if any less than 10 rooms are booked they pay full price instead of the discounted rate (this won't be an issue for us since we have more than 10 rooms blocked already). We are not responsible for any rooms not booked. All that being said, each hotel is different. It's worth calling around to see where you get the best deal with the best rate.

I blocked 15 rooms and at the hotel I chose, if you block 20 or more, then you have to leave a CC number on file. In my case, I didn't because I blocked 15 rooms. I got a set rate for the wedding and they are holding these from now until one month before. If the rooms are not booked by a month before, they are realeased back into the system. I did not have to leave a deposit or assume any responsibility for these rooms.

Re: Hotel Blocks Question

i blocked two different hotels off for 10 rooms each. Basically my guests have almost about a month before my wedding to reserve a room, and then they go back on sale to the public. Both places didn't need a CC for a file, but they did send me a contract that i had to sign and send back.

I suggest asking your reception hall what hotel they recommend- they usually have relationships with at least one which means you get a better deal

Im doing mine at the Wingate in commack. I didnt put any money down and i have 10 rooms blocked at $119 each...not including the 2 suites.

Re: Hotel Blocks Question

My hotel holds rooms for my guests. I blocked 30 (that was the max) and if they are not reserved by guests, I am not responsible for paying for them, they just go back into their system. And by blocking rooms, you get your guests a discounted rate. I think at my hotel, its like $30 off.
