Re: hotel blocks - to those already booked
We didn't really negotiate. Once we spoke w/ the woman who handles blocks she basically told us what the group rate would be which is already discounted. Granted, if we had A LOT of rooms and they were staying for multiple nights I would probably seek a better deal! No harm in asking.

I didn't find anything under 129. But there are less hotels in Suffolk so maybe you'll have better luck in Nassau.
We negotiated with one hotel telling them what a comparable hotel in the area gave us.

I was quoted $129, $139, $149, and $159 (four different hotels). I didn't find any room for negotiation with anyone.

That's a holiday weekend, I wouldn't expect prices to be much lower than that honestly.
We got $119 per night at the Hilton Garden Inn Melville (it's in Plainview though). HTH

Try the Marriott in syosset, it's a fairfield inn. I worked there years ago, but I remember them always having decent prices...often $99. It's hard too because it's a holiday weekend...and that's when prices get jacked up

Our hotel block is at the Allegria in Long Beach, and there was no room for negotiation. We got a discounted rate though

My block is at the same place as Watermelon5's. There was no negotiating at all. The rate is what it is, and your guests need to book using your 'code' to get the special rate. In reality, it's $10 less than the normal rate that night.

We definitely had some room to negotiate. Know the best rates from the hotel websites (including AAA discounts) and what other hotels in the area will charge, and go from there. It can't hurt to ask.
DEF THIS! We got a GREAT rate but our hotel was affiliated with our RH so I think that had something to do with it. We were also Labor Day weekend and we had about 30 rooms blocked. I told them they had to give a better rate or throw some extras in and they did just that. We got breakfast cheaper, our room discounted, and a free shuttle service.

agreed - you get more of a discount when you book more rooms but thats about it.
we are at the huntington hilton for $125 a night in January... the rate varies by date and number of rooms reserved. HTH

I think it is going to be difficult to find something for $99/night. Don't think there is alot of room for negotiation, but make sure you know their standard rates. My hotel originally quoted me a number, and when I checked the rates for that day on their website it was the same value. I wrote them and advised I didn't see how I was getting a discount and advised where I felt it should be, and they met me.

Re: hotel blocks - to those already booked
I am getting married this year the day after thanksgiving and the woman i did my hotel blocks with told me that it is actually NOT a very busy weekend. My block is at the Huntington Hilton for $109. On slow weekends, sometimes the more rooms you need, the more likely they are to work with you. HTH
