hotel for OOT...

hi guys!
i finally got a off my lazy butt and realized thati NEED to think about hotels for the OOT like now. so... the OOT are alll on my FI side... his relatives all live waaaay out in redneck, pennsylvania and don't have much money.. . so keep that in mind...
what do you think would be better? to block rooms at one specific hotel or include a list of 4 or 5 hotels in the area and let them decide? also keep in mind that the few hotels i contacted about blocking rooms...the group rate was only about $5-$10 cheaper than the regular rate..... so price REALLY isn't all that much of an issue... just wanted to get the girls opinions, since i haven't been to any OOT weddings...

i would say let them pick it..the only reason why i blocked out was because we're staying there the night of and we wanted the party to continue with our oot guests.

We have a total of 6 rooms for OOT guests...not one hotel that we went to will block off rooms for only 6...oh wait except for the Wingate, but they're booked solid that weekend for Hofstra's Homecoming...(damn!), so what we did is put together a list of local hotels on our website and again with our invites for them to choose. Plus this way they can take advantage of those sites like hotels.com, etc. and get a better rate!

I blocked rooms at 2 hotels and told them about a third local hotel that was cheaper. The advantage to the blocked rooms, other than the small discount is that they will hold the rooms until a month before the wedding. Most places will book 10 or more. We booked 10, but didn't use them all in either place, and most people stayed at the cheaper hotel

I sent an email with a bunch of options, a few hotels and thier group rates, plus ammenities (fh's family is OOT, southern, and not used to NY prices) I asked them respond with the one they like best. It was good. They all picked the same one.

Does anyone know of reasonably priced LI hotels that provide airport shuttle buses?

we did the same thing... but you can get rooms cheaper if you go thru Orbitz, or Travelocity... just the quality of the room might be lacking.
