Hotel problem.....

My friend is calling hotels for me for my wedding block (cause I can't at work) and they are telling her that she can't get rates for over a year away and I have to call back in May... What gives???

Anyone else had this problem?? I don't want to wait to send out my STD's with the hotel block info...

I am seeing people chat about hotel quotes all over this forum...... and I've seen some people already creationg their STD's with hotel info cards!!

Re: Hotel problem.....

technically, the STD goes out 9-12 months before the wedding and just serves to announce that the wedding is booked for this date and to hold the date.
STD don't need to have so much specific info - like hotel block info - that usually comes with the invitation. Plus, most people won't reserve their room for their wedding so far in advance.

I know most hotels I've looked at do not let me block rooms this far in advance. I have to wait until 1 year or less from the my wedding date.

I had the same problem - i called shortly after we booked our RH (October) and was told they wont do it untill a year out.

I agree with the other poster - you dont need that info on the STD and can just include it with the invitation.

I have a lot of OOT guests and I'd like them to know the hotel accomidations early.. It's a holiday weekend so I wanted them to arrive about 13-12 months before.......

I agree that you don't HAVE to include the info.. but I'd like to be able to do it this way..

Re: Hotel problem.....

my BF is getting married memorial day weekend next year, and none of her hotels are letting her block any time slots this far in advance.
My sister got married on the 4th of july weekend last year and the same thing with her.
While it would be nice to have that info with the STD's - i really don't think people will book that early.

What I HAVE seen peopledo is once they book the hotel block - they send out annoucements with that info (although that is extra postage money spent)
maybe that might be a possibility for you if you don't find a nice hotel that will let you book rooms this early.

good luck!

Re: Hotel problem.....

I thnk it really just depends on the hotel. They all have their own rules on how far in advance guests can book. I am getting married in May and started calling hotels about a month ago. All the hotels I called gave me rates over the phone and the hotel we ended up blocking rooms off at told me that my guests can even start calling to book if they want. FH and I also already booked a suite for our wedding night there as well. My wedding is in Suffolk and all of the hotels I called were around the Hauppauge, Ronkonkoma, and Stony Brook area.

What you can do is have your STDs ready and then 12 months before when you are able to block off your rooms then make the hotel info cards right away so that they can be sent with your STDs.

Re: Hotel problem.....

I'm running into this problem as well and I'm having a destination wedding!!

Basically what I'm doing is sending out the STD's in April with a sentance which will direct people to our wedding website for the accomodation info. On our wedding website we are listing the 3 closest hotels to our venue and giving them a range of the cost per night. This way they can get an idea of what the cost is going to be and can start planning accordingly. We also decided not to do the block as we would be responsible for the unbooked rooms and we can't afford that kind of a risk.

Hope this helps!
