I tried, but it didn't work. Then again I was blocking off a hotel in Port Jeff in the middle of the summer so its not like I was gonna get a blow out deal.

I tried as well and it didn't work - then again the hotels are in Riverhead in August so I'm not surprised.

Re: hotel rate and negotiatiing
I got all 5 hotels we spoke with to come down $10 at least.
This is for June, 2010 on Route 110 between Farmingdale and Plainview.
Just tell them, I love your hotel, but if you could come down to X, that would make our decision much easier. I also told them that other hotels were giving me lower quotes (true), and they were able to price match.
I think I negotiated EVERYTHING for our wedding. It's worth at least a shot!

I didn't, but I've heard of people that did and were successful. Also, one of the hotels I looked into, when I told them I chose somewhere else because the price was lower, they told me that could've been negotiated. Wish i would've tried

I didn't...I thought that the price they gave me was good and they were throwing in a free room if we get 10 rooms. I felt bad trying to negotiate

Re: hotel rate and negotiatiing
Definitely! We negotiated and got a really good rate at the Hilton Garden Inn in Ronkonkoma. It's a good idea to shop around and see what the other area hotels are charging too.

I would def. try! It doesn't hurt. I tried but got nothing. I am booked at the Hiton Garden Inn in Westbury and if you look on hotels.com, the room is CHEAPER by $40! I was kind of annoyed so I called and tried to get them to come down but nope, they wouldn't. I have 23 rooms booked with them so far and they wouldn't do anything. Their reasoning is that my guests could cancel and hotels.com can't, they are providing a shuttle, yada yada yada. So annoying! But I would say def. try!

I had the same problem with Hilton Garden Inn, Westbury, except it was there own website which was $10 cheaper and the woman gave me some story about how they couldn't match the rate. So instead of givig me the the cheaper rate they lost a $1,200+ sale. I booked with the Marriott and got a waaay better rate.

Its so annoying! I already had 23 rooms booked so I couldn't go elsewhere. I prob would have looked into going elsewhere. Oh well, what can I do. People are more than welcome to book at the cheaper rate but they won't be able to take the shuttle. I tired atleast!
