DH and I are planning on going this summer - we want to stay a few days in athens and santorini -
Does anyone have hotel recs for really nice hotels there?

The best hotel in athens is hotel grand bretagne. I'd search trip advisor for reviews on hotels. Most of the hotels in athens are just 'ok' for the price. In santorini (oia), the katikes is very well known and pretty expensive. We stayed at oia mare villas. We were right near the area where everybody goes to watch the sunset. We were also right near the steps to go down to the ammoudi harbor (we loved walking down there to an area where you can swim in the sea).

My friend (and former Latin professor) goes to Greece every year and this is the place she recommended when we were thinking of going to Santorini for our HM: Sun Rocks Hotel

First of all I am SO JEALOUS!!!! We went to greece this past august (Crete, Santorini and Athens) and it was the most amazing vacation ever!
In Athens we stayed at the Grand Bretagne - OMG - it was WONDERFUL!!!!! We were told this was the nicest hotel in all of Greece and I really believe it!
In Santorini, we wanted to stay at the Katikies but, it was all booked. Not sure when you are going but if you are going in August my advice is BOOK SOON. Both the Katikies and Sun rocks were my first choices but they were all booked (we tried to book in May). However, my friend stayed at the Sun Rocks in August and was VERY UNHAPPY. We ended up staying at the Honeymoon Petra Villas - cheesy name I know. the hotel is in an AMAZING location - the pool cannot be beat and has to be one of the best on the island. The only thing I have to say is that it was very expensive for what we got. With the EURO/$ difference it was well over $400/night and for that I just expected more of the rooms which were nothing special, but, I have to say, I think i just had too high expectations for a european hotel! Definitely let me know if you need restaurant reccs because I think we ate at the best ones on santornin and in athens
Also, our hotel in Santorini was in Imerovigli (sp?) which, I thought was the ideal location because it was in betwein Oia and Fira - which was great! Oia is beautiful, but much further from everything else. Imerovigli has awesome views as well and I think a better location.
