Where is your church? The Brooklyn Marriot is very far from El Caribe.

our church is in downtown brooklyn our limo company is bringing us to/from so no biggie for the el caribe deal...just want a nice hotel that isn't going to cost 2000.00

The Brooklyn Marriot is a really nice hotel and its just at the base of the Brooklyn Bridge. I imagine that it charges almost the same as Manhattan prices but it is a lovely hotel near Brooklyn Heights, the famous Brooklyn promenade, the Brooklyn Bridge and Smith Street, which has some outstanding places to eat and some fun bars. I have never seen the rooms but it's a Marriot so I would say that they're standard Marriot rooms and suites.

The Gregory is located in Bay Ridge (which is where I live). I have never been inside but it is kind of in the middle of nowhere on 4th avenue next to some apartment buildings. It looks pretty small and there is not much to do around there except some local bars and restaurants. By the way, there are some good restaurants in Bay Ridge and to be fair, it seems like the Gregory is always busy and a lot of guests stay there for weddings and stuff. I am sure it's nice as well.

My 2 cents - and I am a Brooklyn girl - Stay at the Marriot if its not too far out of your price range.

Good luck.

the marriott was my original thought b/c i grew up in downtown brooklyn but they want about 650 p/n before taxes...that seems steep.the gregory wants about 350 but isn't as scenic...

neither offers early check in hence the friday night stay...if we could stay for saturday only, then i wouldn't care but 1300 plus taxes seems steep not sure...hmmmm

what about staying by the airport. Like Holiday Inn by JFK?

i've been to the mariott - it's very pretty and is right by everything. don't know about the other place though.

I had no idea that the Mariott was soooooo freaking expensive. I think you might be able to find a hotel suite in the city for that price. Would you consider subletting an apartment or two for your weekend? I don't know if your comfortable doing that but I would be and you could stay in a cool neighborhood in a slamming apartment. I know that you can get really nice lofts or suites in NYC for far less than 650 per night. Check craigslist or google NYC daily apartment rentals. I just checked one site out and there were pleanty of places in the 300-400 range. The look just like hotels! Otherwise, I would consider the Gregory. I know its not as nice as the Mariott but unless you want to take pics in downtown brooklyn (which would be really nice!!!) I don't think its worth it.

i'll check out craigslist, didn't think of it. as far as jfk goes, too much traffic we don't want to pay for another hour for the limos for the boys...

who ever thought weddings would be so much money...ugh

my friend had family stay at the gregory for her wedding this summer and they were happy with it. I was in sheepshead bay this weekend and there are several new hotels that opened. one is a best western on emmons avenue...maybe you can try that....

good luck!
