How does it work with hotels and blocking off rooms, etc??? If we pick our date and book the hall and the church has our date, do we also need to be SURE at this point that there are hotels that will block off rooms for us? I'm not sure how many rooms we'll need, but is this one of the deciding factors of our date, too???

Usually they will block off a certain amount. My hotel is blocking 10 rooms at a time. I keep calling to see if I need to add more.
They will hold these rooms until a month before the wedding. Then, the rooms are open to the public too.
So no this shouldnt determine your date. once you have a date, call the hotel to block it for that weekend.

Nah, there will always be a hotel that has rooms... I would maybe call around to see if places still have availability if you are a little concerned but I wouldn't base any major decisions around it... I felt like most placed were at me when I was trying to do this over a year out. UNLESS you are a holiday weekend and near a major vaca/holiday destination then I might worry a little more....

Sigh..... Thank you. All the rest of this has been so stressful, I didn't even THINK until we were talking about it as to whether that was a factor this early or not!!!!
I think I'm going to need a prescription for some anxiety pills for this process!!!!

Try not to stress and enjoy it. Deep breathes!! It can be done. I'm doing this in 8 months, and there really is time for everything. You'll get it all done :)

We got engaged around the same time as each other (we were 12/10/09). I'm not really worried about getting things done by October, but my parents, his parents and the drama of it all is kind of getting to me at this point...
I just want to get my RH decided on and booked!!!

We blocked the hotels 5 months out (which was not that long ago). They are also doing 10 at a time, and adding more as needed. If we wanted to block more than 10, we were going to have to pay. Also, 1 month before the wedding, they release any unblocked rooms, so if you know guests that are def. going to need a hotel, push them to book quickly!

It also depends on how big the hotel is. We have rooms blocked at the Roslyn Claremont which is tiny, so I needed to get on that quickly. Larger hotels shouldn't be as much of a problem.

I wasn't sure if that was one of the things that needed to be done RIGHT NOW... There's so much cross-checking and cross-planning already with the church and RH and family and other engaged couples and pregnant people.... I'm so happy that this is not another one!!!!
