Hi Everyone, How is everyone handling the hotel situation? I don't want to be responsible for rooms that people don't book - any suggestions?

Re: Hotels
I really dont have any OOTers so I dont think I'm going to do anything. Maybe try word of mouth before actually booking rooms - see how many people are really interested.

Re: Hotels
i blocked 10 rooms and i tghink we might even need more then that. however, i am not responsible for anything costs if people dont book. the rooms will only be held until 1 month before the wedding date and then they are released for regular sale.

Re: Hotels
Well all of the hotels that I spoke to, said that there not charging rooms that aren't used..... Basically you block so many number of rooms and then if at a the cut off date they don't book. The hotel has a right to unblock those room to other people...
So from what I was getting they don't charge you on room that your not using.... HTH

Re: Hotels
Certain places require you to be responsible for the rooms and others don't. I blocked rooms at a hotel where I had to be responsible if I blocked over 20 rooms. So I blocked 15.

Re: Hotels
we blocked 10 rooms the night before and the night of. It's a day wedding so some of the ppl coming from OOT may want to stay over the night before to already be in the area. We're going to have an afterparty at the hotel so we blocked rooms that night in case ppl want to stay. Our hotel's policy is that they will hold the rooms w/ no money up front. Any rooms that haven't been taken 30 days before the wedding they will open up and try to sell to anyone, not just ppl attending the wedding.

Re: Hotels
I think I am going to do what my sister did for her wedding> She included a list of hotels around her hall and left it up to the guest to do what they may want..Ofcourse she researched pricing first so make sure is wasnt crazy..It seemed to work out for her...we don't alot of OOTers

Re: Hotels
when i blocked the hotel, they said guests would have a discounted price available to them up until a month before the wedding, at which point they'd be released if they were still unfilled. i had no obligation at all.

I have the same situation with my hotel. Its up to people to book rooms, and if they dont, then the rooms are released 1 month before the wedding and I'm not responsible for anything. I believe that is the way it SHOULD BE

Re: Hotels
you shouldn't be responsible for any rooms that are not booked. I know I am not. If the hotel says you will be, use another hotel.

Re: Hotels
I am using La Quinta and they do not hold you responsible for any of the rooms you block- Holiday Inn is the same way.

Re: Hotels
I made sure that the hotel we booked wouldn't hold us responsible for rooms that aren't booked. We blocked 20 rooms (I have A LOT of OOT guests) and they will be released to the general public 30 days before the wedding.

The Sheraton in Smithtown/Happauge. They gave me a rate of $139.00 per night.
