Hotels in San Diego

I was thinking of buying my mom a few days in San Diego, CA.

Does anyone know any good hotels and where should i have her stay? In old town or by the beach?

Definitely the Coronado! It's SO beautiful and right on the beach. (the Grand Floridian in Disney World was modeled after it) It has alot of history to it, and it a pretty famous place in San Diego.
