Looking to be as close to the strip as possible but still in a nicer place. Any suggestions?

I personally love the Bellagio. It is my favorite hotel in Vegas. Some think it's not as fun as Mandalay Bay but MB seems sketchy sometime to me anyway.

You want to be on the strip, right?
we just got back- check my review on LIF under travel
We stayed at Paris, I recommend it... directly in the center of the strip- Mid-priced hotel
We loved Ceasars and the Venetian and would stay at either next time we go- both in good locations on the strip. My parents always stay at the venetian and LOVE IT- a bit more than Paris- venetian is all suites!
Bellagio- people LOVE, it's more $$$, I didn't see the rooms, but personally I liked Ceasar's and Venetian better-as far as the hotel goes
Wynn and Mandalay Bay are really nice hotels BUT they are far away from 'the center'... I liked being in the middle of the strip- mandalay bay is on end and wynn is on the other

Re: Hotels in Vegas? What to recommend?
I've stayed at:
THEhotel at Mandalay Bay (all suites - AWESOME hotel, but at the very beginning of the strip),
Paris (nice, but we hated the congestion in the lobby - the way the casino and lobby are layed out, there's always congestion getting in and out of the hotel - it was a hassle for us),
Wynn (great, brand new, a little more north part of the strip, but across the street from a mall, SUPER comfortable bed, all new things like plasma tv's etc),
Palms (nice, good clubs and lounges, but not ON the strip, it's actually 2 miles away, quick cab ride to the strip but cabs are pricey in Vegas, Palm is more of a younger, hipper hotel),
Imperial Palace (didn't like it, don't recommend, rooms were old and the casino was dark and dreary.
For best pricing, travel from Sunday through Thursday. Friday and Saturday nights the hotel rooms can be double or more. And honestly, Vegas is alive EVERY night, so it doesn't make much of a difference if you don't stay on Friday or Saturday.
I'm having my bach. party in Vegas in September (so is FH) and the girls are staying at the Mirage and the guys are staying at MGM. Both moderately priced, 4* hotels.
Best pool: Mandalay Bay, hands down. They have a fake beach type pool, and a wave pool.
Second best pool (according to people that have been there that said this to me): Mirage - big and has a nice layout and some waterfalls etc. MGM apparently has a lazy river type pool in addition to their regular pool.
Best nightlife: many of the hotels have big hotspots. Venetian has Tao, Bellagio (I believe) has Light, Palms has Rain and also Ghostbar, etc etc.
HTH!

THE hotel is THE coolest... although it's definitely a taxi ride from most stuff.

The Planet Hollywood is awesome (formerly known as the Aladdin) and it has amazing shopping and they are running all kinds of specials since they just changed the name over not that long ago.

I went to Vegas for my bachelorette party. It was really awesome. We got a great deal. Each personh was $360 which included airfare and 2 nights at the Excalibar.

When are you going? That could depend on a number of places. If you're going during the hot summer days and will spend time at the pool I highly recommend the Flamingo, Monte Carlo, Mandalay Bay (actually never stayed there but it has an awesome pool) Bellagio or Mirage. I think good ones for more of the winter months are Bellagio, Mirage, Bally's and MGM.

I was surprised by the Flamingo--I thought it was nice and their pool is nice too...complete with a section with slides

I love the Monte Carlo, not too expensive at all but not a cheap hotel. Clean, right on the strip...highly recommend it!

I've stayed at Bally's, Paris, Tropicana, Excalibur and Luxor, and would recommend them in that order.

I have stayed at NY NY, Monte Carlo and MGM. They were all fine. If I get a chance to go again I would really like to stay at the WINN.

I think the Flamingo has the best pool on the strip! Plus they're attached to Margaritaville

Luxor was awesome. Out of the 3 that I have stayed in, I liked this one the best. Great atmosphere and awesome pools

The Signature at the MGM...i loved every minute of it.
Paris is a great place right in the center of the strip...its more laid back but elegant, less expensive then the others but not as active if your looking for the club type scene.
Bellagio and Venitian are gorgeous but expensive....very expensive........
Luxor is really nice, reasonable rates and has an amazing pool !!

Re: Hotels in Vegas? What to recommend?
I would suggest looking into the Sahara, Monte Carlo, Tropicana, Treasure Island.... it all depends on where you want to be on the strip.
We have stayed at the Sahara all 3 times we went, and, it is a good hotel, clean, a little older, but NOT in any disrepair or anything like that.
It is at the end of the strip, but they are a stop on the monorail..... and, a cab to midstrip isn't bad at all.
They have great prices, and are good for when the night is over and you want to go back to your hotel and relax, they're usually not overly busy, and you can get a seat at any table.... and, they have $3 blackjack!!!!
